So I guess more tractors are going overseas to nations that does not have anything to worry about. No comptuers, no emissions no no no. Must be nice.

By the same token I think FMCSA is being a bit draconian making hard dates in which you WILL switch without fail. Or get out of the business entirely.

Half tempted to give say Africa another look. No regulations excepting mud in the rainy season.

Lol just got one today. I just quit hauling livestock and ordered the ELD and haven't registered it yet. I got out OOS right here by my house. I was standing my ground and haven't registered it yet, that came back to bite me but oh well. I hate to get an OOS, my first ever actually. I wonder how much this will affect me being able to work with brokers....... I love what I do but can't stand all the regulations!!!

I was down 10 weeks with an injury. put my ELD in may 17 for my first run. I am technology challenged lol. the log company was awesome with their help in set up and along the way. ran cali to PA, return run pulled in w memphis 4am sunday. him- did you bring in your log? me- no him- bring in your tablet. me- no can do , affixed to dash. him- email it to me. me- mine prints. him grumpy and REALLY annoyed- regulations says you must be able to electronically transfer log! me- I didn't read reg that way before I spent $$$. don't know what I did wrong but did not save trailer # on print out. 5 same log violations, 1 for each day including a full day off duty? I refused to sign after we yelled at each other then I just left. I was audio recording for a while. but did not get all of it. tried 2 block this out of my mind for last couple of weeks but think I've about had enough regs forced down my throat. was going to buy a new truck this year but I have never considered getting out more than now.

Sounds to me like you have a "local transfer" type device...which is perfectly legal. Must be able to transmit via secure USB or Bluetooth (which THE OFFICER must provide). If the officer is unwilling or unable to provide HIS OWN device to complete the transfer, how is that YOUR problem? It isn't.

My 1st inspection with an ELD lasted dern near 2 hours (the CB chatter from the locals who kept driving past was rather hillarious), of which we spent over an hour attempting to transfer the logs electronically. Nothing in the instructions really described what was necessary (or the process) very well. A long string of emails with Garmin (after the fact) (hopefully) has it all straightened out. I've also printed and included in my permit book a couple pdf's from the FMCSA describing the process a little better, as well as the email chain with Garmin. They also did an update which addressed the issues we were having...apparently now there are different and better error messages, and the transfer will work with a wider range of android and ios devices, since departments are unwilling to spend the money on the devices they were supposed to get in order to do THEIR job...

I have the VDO road log just for the print option. I will not let any LEO have my email address. I could transfer quickley into my drivers key and hand that to him(ain't happening) or get out my laptop download the key then send it to him.(that ain't never happening either)
