One trailer is enough.
I’ll only do two in the summertime.
2BucTruck Thanks this. -
i wouldn’t do that, either. the only thing that sucks about linehaul is night shift. it’s a trade well worth making for linehaul, though. given a choice, ill retire from pitt. it sounds like dayton has very similar business practices so i imagine you’ll enjoy it there just as much as i do here.
i think top pay there only takes 2 years to achieve, whereas it’s 3 years here. truth be told i’m doing all right in that regard and i won’t be on top pay until the end of this month.Bob Dobalina and TinMan89 Thank this. -
You ARE speaking to the wrong ones.....
TinMan89, Warrior Cat and slim shady Thank this. -
I know a couple FTW drivers I can ask. We have a similar situation in Columbus where Toledo open drivers can sit sometimes, but if you're comfortable on a forklift you can do just fine up there. And it won't be all the time. Some drivers will even do yard moves there to pass the time. There are also guys in Dayton who will push a broom or empty trashcans on the dock to keep making money while they wait. And the two I know of (myself included) don't need the extra money, they just like staying busy.
I don't know what FTW's other set bids are like, but I love my job. Others have mentioned the atmosphere and such. The entire compensation package, getting vacation time immediately, not messing with pups, etc. I'm highly biased toward Dayton, but I don't know enough about how R&L does things. Anyway, it's a great job. I'll retire here if they let me. Good luck! -
That’s good to hear, as I don’t mind doing whatever as long as I’m making money. I’m pretty excited to get going, as I think I will really enjoy this job. It definitely beats having to stand in the rain or snow for 30-45 minutes in the rain/snow at a gas station lol
The guys that I talked to seemed pretty happy for the most part and even though the truck I took my test in was older, it seemed to be in pretty good shape and drove good going down the road.
Anyways thanks for the response, I might message you sometime if I have any questions if that’s fine by you. Maybe one day we will run into each other!Bob Dobalina Thanks this. -
Are you serious? Dayton without question dude. I heard you come in with 2 weeks vacation off the bat. Can't get no better than that.
TinMan89 Thanks this. -
you made the right choice. having run Toledo open out of Columbus, I can say the stories senior guys have said about the sitting in Toledo, doesnt happen all that often anymore
At least not for Columbus guys.TinMan89 Thanks this. -
he will come January. For now it would be 1 pto day and a couple days vacation available. I think.Bob Dobalina and TinMan89 Thank this.

Im at dayton too, thanks to Bob! been here almost 2 years in the city and love it! Best culture around! @mickeyrat Bob can tell you who I am one night, youve probably seen me.
I think we pay much better than R&L when it comes to linehaul. From what Ive heard, night dispatch treats you pretty good too throughout the night. You will get 2 weeks vacation come january 1st. Which I think is pretty cool! Welcome aboard! I can answer any questions if you have any, but since youre going to transportation youre probably better off asking @Bob Dobalina or @mickeyrat since Im a city guy.Texas_hwy_287, TinMan89 and Bob Dobalina Thank this.
