I'm sure I already know the answer but having just obtained my MC number, am I no longer eligible to use intrastate rules as I did running DOT only? I'm wondering if the 12/16 hour rule, (labeled as a "secondary cycle" on my ELD app), would still apply if I do not cross state lines on a given calendar day or if I am now bound to interstate HOS rules at all times.
Thanks as always and stay safe everybody!

All that matters is the shipment, not you. If the load crosses state (or country) lines then you must use intrastate rules. If the shipment is intrastate, then of ckurse use those hours.
Example:
Working L.A. ports and pick up a container of a ship from China and deliver to San Francisco then that is interstate as the shipment crossed state lines.
If you pick up in say Napa Valley and deliver to Fresno that would be intrastate.
In a nutshell the numbers you run under does not affect hos.Last edited: Jun 16, 2018
brian991219 and Bank_Lbr Thank this. -
That's what I figured. For the next six weeks my days are mostly filled with two Vero Beach, FL to Groveland, FL round trips and that extra hour of drive time sometimes comes into play on the second trip with either Turnpike or Orlando traffic to get through. There will be some GA and SC trips mixed in there as well so that's what got me wondering.
Regardless I am still bound to the 70hr/8day rule overall. -
Look up the new personal Conveyance guidelines. You should have no problems getting back on your second trip as long as you are heading to the house at the end of your day.
x1Heavy Thanks this.
