Net, before taxes. Now wtf do you think that means? -
I wonder if fishermen have different nets too...I am sure they do, depending on a type of fish they want to catch.
Cybercat Thanks this. -

I left a good job at the end of Dec 2011 and Jan 2012 I stepped out with my own truck. I have no regrets about doing that at all. I ran all over the country hauling livestock, but mainly California back to the Midwest and Florida back to the Midwest.
My plan was never to own my own truck for the rest of my life. I used the money for other interests as well as paying off debt I incurred from my divorce. At the end of 2016 I got the itch to move back to Western MT, so I sold my truck and called my old boss about the new glider he’d just finished building.
Like I said, I have no regrets about doing it, but it sure is nice not being married to a truck anymore. -
Interesting thread. I'm just a company guy, and I'm happy to be where I'm at but there's reasons why being an owner operator appeals to me.
One being, for a company guy it'll never be anything more than just a job. While being an owner operator, there's potential there to actually grow and be able to leave something of value for your family / kids. Actually build equity in family wealth.
If you do it right being an owner operator gives you the opportunity to actually one day be able to step out of a truck and run a business.
Yeah as a company guy you have a 401k and you can grow that but realistically you are going to drive a truck for rest of your life and you will have no equity besides that 401k account.
I think it's all about realizing if you are a truck driver or a businessman, not that there's anything wrong with being either or. -

I'll throw my two cents In, company man all local doing cryogenic's, started like most OTR bumping docks. Went tanker and have never looked back, from oil, chem, fuel, and cryo it's been fun. Most of our guys make over 100k per year but that's not uncommon for specialized/tanker drivers. Now with that being said if I got the crazy idea to ever go back on the big roads id say owner op would be the way id want to go. Just do to the fact that if im gonna be out on the road I'd want the biggest bang for my sacrifices. Also boy it would be sweet to have a nice ride to cruise around in.

A few guys at my place recently jumped ship to become owner operators and we make 2k a week here with full benefits so I wish those guys the best.
As for me personally, my dream/end game is to get out of this industry. It's been good to me and I've been blessed to make more than a lot of guys right off the bat but I can't see myself making a career out of it.
