I know lots of folks my age (mid 40’s) around here that’s been in the oilfield all their working lives. A lot of them have some really nice homes/properties/farms. Not to mention all the toys. The smart ones don’t get this stuff repo’d in a downturn, cuz they bought it with cash. They ran hard, made sacrifices, didn’t cut it no slack, and then were smart with the money so they could reap the rewards later.
I’ve only known a couple guys that ever worked for companies such as Swift. Both quit cuz it was costing almost as much as their checks to eat and be comfortable on the road.
Frac sand opportunity, too good to be true?

Your talking about the minority.
I'm in a town full of busted out oilfield workers.
When the goings good they buy everything they can.
As soon as those checks stop here comes the repo
Man followed by a moving van.
It's like clock work.
Till they finally get fed up and go get a regular job. -
That's just natural selection at work, I'm grateful for the opportunity to make good money in exchange for my labor. I choose to save and accrue my money, it's not my business what everyone else does with theirs.
Also I worked at Swift, lmao at making a career out of there. It really is funny how clueless truckers who haven't worked oil are about the o & g industry. The fact you live in an old boomtown doesn't matter, you could have a room at a refinery and you still wouldn't understand it until you do it.
Is personal responsibility no longer a thing?RockinChair and RubyEagle Thank this. -

I know what you’re talkin about. Just don’t see too much of that around here. Most of the guys here, like me, are second/third generation oilfield workers, and know better.
It’s the fellas that float into town on a breeze every time oil goes up a few bucks. Companies start hiring and these folks move down here from all over the place. Finally see what a good paycheck looks like and don’t know how to handle it. -
When you live in a former/declining boomtown you sometimes get to see it happen more than once.

Hey Lance so I'm sitting here in Seattle got a Volvo day cab no wet kit no blower. I'm an owner operator running Intermodal containers in and out of the ports. 2 years ago ran for a year Frac sand 1st in Williston then down Southwest of San Angelo Texas as a company driver cuz nobody would contract with me as a single driver owner operatin. question is now where can I put my truck on down there and maybe drive some of those sand cans that don't need blowers. Are they desperate enough for trucks let me operate under their Authority?
-
Yes they are begging for owner ops no trl needed and if you have a chassis you can have it modified for boxes possibly most company's will supply you with everything you will need plates fuel card ECT pm me and I'll shoot you my number and give you a few numbers to some of the company's that would take you
