What is this Rattle in the front of my Cat engine?

Safe to assume this is just a guessing game and nobody has ever heard this rattle I’m talking about? Sounds like it’s either idler gear or balancer. Too low on motor imo to be idler gear though.

No adjustment on gear train on C-12. Vibration damper is only good for 500,000. The silicone gets hard over time. With belt off, you are still driving the air compressor, p/s pump, water pump and oil pump up front. Most noise issues I have had with C-12 is top end. Rockers and shafts tend to wear out. When is last time you run an overhead?

I have overhauled quite a few C-12 and C13 in dump trucks, and I always replace the damper. It is cheap insurance.

They make many OEM dampers. Cat started sourcing some of theirs from China. These are 100% made in USA. Your call on where you source your parts.
