I went to Northampton college in Tannersville to get my CDL class A. Hopefully this won't happen to me in the future. Good luck to you guys.

When I took my test I was told I had to be in gear and press the clutch when slowing down to a stop sign or traffic light. Once stopped I could get out of the gear.

    Metallica88 Thanks this.

When I took my test we were all warned that they were sticklers for proper shifting, and from what I read this is becoming more the norm.

I did an interview with Penndot in Wayne co a few weeks ago. I had also done an interview in Washington and Allegheny last year.
The experience in Wayne Co was so different. The guy there took me on a road test first around the building. If I grinned the gears, it was an automatic fail. I failed as I grinded the gears.
Last year, I passed absolutely no problem and got both jobs. I decided not to take them as they were paying just over $14 a hour. I got office work for better money and stayed there until I moved to Wayne co this year.
For $14 an hour and not to grind the gears!!

I'd have had him demonstrate for me how to drive around the building and shift without grinding a gear. If he couldn't do it, then he couldn't require me to do it.

It was crazy as there were pot holes, slopes, people working and forklifts moving. So I think the highest gear I got into was 3rd.If I didn't grind the gears, he would have taken me out on the open road in the truck. Also, he had me tell him how I would do a pre trip and also I had to do an air brake test before the driving part.

In the other two road tests, both examiners said that we just want to know if you can control the vehicle. I went straight out on the open road with them after the interview.

Well, you could have just started out in 3rd and left it there. Take that, power tripping state employee...
