I have filled out so many applications that i have decided to give up! im 36 years old and have drove trucks since i was in high school, i had to wait til i was 21 to get my a-class to pull trailers, i have pulled flatbeds, dry vans, lowboys, tankers and i even hauled live chickens for almost 9 years..i have tank and hazmats but ive only ran over the road for about 6 months with a team driver hauling explosives on a tanker back in 07..i never went to a trucking school,i learned the old school way.. no tickets or accidents and i even went through fleet training, simulators, smith systems training,i even went through training on the paperless logs and ran those for almost a year..i cant get anyone to even talk to me because i havent have much otr experience and i didnt graduate from a 10,000 dollar truck college?? anyone know where i can apply to run otr or am i gonna have to go to school to get a job? i hope jb hunt or scheider isnt my only hope.lol

This is absurd..You have much more exp. then many drivers with 20 years driving. You have proven yourself. This is out of control baby maker.
What is being done to you is very simple..This is another way for the companies to keep cheap wages flowing..It's another way to undermine you as a driver and undermine your exp...
The payoff in turn is they justify giving you ''cheap pay'' and crap benifits also..Thats all this is..IT'S not right but they get away with it.It's also another way for them to charge you 500.00 bucks for a ''refresher gay course''.rolmfao...this is to much...lol
The system in trucking today is geared to ''cheap labor'',new drivers and justifying and undermining people with exp.....
They don't want people with exp..They want ''cheap labor''..and they are getting it everyday...
Good luck and if i were you i would stay away, stay home and work local..OTR SUCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS....LOL,LOL
IT'S a joke anymore...happypappy25 and walleye Thank this. -
I don't have any advice because I don't know anything, but I just wanted to say you should never give up. No matter what.
And AI Roboform is very useful in filling out at least the first page of an application. Basic Info. There is a free version. Push one button, it fills in the blanks.
Good luck to you, sir.1pissedoffdriver Thanks this. -
How about Warner or Swift, JB Hunt have you tryed them

When they lift the hiring freeze check out maverick. You don't need a school or recent OTR, but you will need to do their load securement and go out with a trainer.

I feel ya, This hiring process has gotten out of hand...It's sad to see people who want jobs and are willing to work, not be able to get one.
To have some stranger sitting behind a desk, sipping coffee, decide your fate (as far as employment) can be very frustrating...1pissedoffdriver and walleye Thank this. -
Wonce again POD you see things wrong. The problem here is that there are 500 apps for even dirivng job availible. If you apply to an OTR company then you NEED to have otr experience. Other whose they don't want to talk to you.
When I got ready to find a job back in Oct. my problem wasn't getting some one to take my app. It was choising where I wanted to work. I have lots of OTR experience, A good safty record and 100% on-time. I put out 10 apps and 9 of then offered me jobs.
Babymaker, my advice is. bit the bullit, Apply to some of the big guys. Go throw what every training they want you to and get some otr experience. Then after a year when things get better and you have some of that experience they want you can move to a company that you want. For now if you want to go otr you got to do what you got to do. Play the game.
Oh, and POD.......OTR RULES! -
MY FINGERS ARE GETTING TIRED BUT I DISAGREE....LOL,LOL
BECAUSE IF THAT WAS THE CASE I WOULD BE WORTH ALOT OF MONEY...THAT IS RIGHT, ME OF ALL PEOPLE...
20 YEARS EXP,NO WRECKS,NO TICKETS,REEFERS,FLATS,VANS,GOVERMENT ENDORSED AND HAZ MAT,5 JOBS IN LAST 20 YEARS.SHALL I KEEP GOING ON...ETC,ETC,ETC,
THEY WILL NOT OFFER ME ANYMORE MONEY,BENIFITS,PENSION OR 401K THEN JOE BLOW WITH A YEAR EXP.I SEE IT EVERYDAY...
OTR EXP DOES NOT PAY....ONCE YOU GET A YEAR,FROM THAT POINT ON YOU MAKE WHAT A DRIVER WITH 40 YEARS MAKES...IT IS WHAT IT IS..
0-1 YEAR,YES YOU EAT CRAP
1-50 YEARS IS ALL THE SAME.SAD BUT TRUE.
BECAUSE IF THAT WAS THE CASE ABOUT MYSELF I SHOULD BE MAKING AT LEAST .50 CENT A MILE....AND EVERY BENIFIT KNOWN TO MANKIND..
OTR DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT.IT IS BASED ON ''CHEAP LABOR''walleye Thanks this. -
This whole recent OTR experience is complete BS!
The man can clearly drive a truck and speaking as someone who has drove both local and OTR the only difference is that you get to see your DM daily to ask him why the hell he gave you that load!
The trucks are pretty much the same , only shorter(in some cases). You still have to know how to read and understand a map and know how to get yourself out of a trouble when you go off the map... It's the same!
This is complete BS, If I owned a company I'd hire him or any other with his experience level before I'd even consider hireing someone out of school... Insurance be ######!
While typing this it occurs to me that perhaps the reason companies don't want to hire experienced driver's is precisely because of that, Experience!
See, with experience come the ability to know when your being "screwed"... It's been my experience that companies don't like it when someone knows how to play their game!
Any ways, I hope you find a good job with an honorable company!luvtheroad and 1pissedoffdriver Thank this. -
If they have openings Moorman Farms in Utica , KY will hire you . They run mostly hopper bottoms but have some tankers . They have plenty of work . A lot of hours but they had a billboard on U.S. 60 saying you'll make $45,000 a year . Half their fleet is leased from Ryder . Their trucks are well maintained .
