For the love of God, is there no common sense left in the grey matter of human beings.
Surely common sense should prevail in most situations!!!

Second, and MOST importantly, "WAVING" is NOT a signal.

Let me repeat that second and most important rule:

WAVING IS NOT A SIGNAL.

If you are going to spot someone while they are backing up, then learn how to signal properly. If you don't know proper signals, then don't attempt it.

In the oil industry drivers have to sign a form that we understand the five basic signals. All fracking sites have professional spotters, that's their job, there's a spotter in front of you and a spotter in back of you. Even then as a driver it is your responsibility to stop, set the parking brake, and GOAL if you are uncertain of the required moves.

At the VERY least, if you plan to spot someone then talk with them and at LEAST agree on the signal for "STOP!"

There's nothing sadder than to see a "trainer" with a mega carrier frantically "waving" his hand in a circle to guide a trainee on a back.

All our signals are pretty standard in a mixer too, but I have noticed it’s somewhat regional.

I work with a lot of dudes from Texas who come up for the road construction season. Theirs are totally different but also self explanatory so it’s no big deal.
