zen the best thing I can tell you is to move on, they are cost cutting by changing policies and rules in order to give them a vague "legal basis" to disqualify/terminate drivers in order to free up exisiting trucks for all the newhires they have brought in figuring only a couple would make it not realizing that in the current state of things people are holding on more then they used too

It's not just Werner who is "house cleaning" these days. With all of the experienced drivers looking for jobs now, it seems as though the tiniest infraction gets people out of a job. Let's face it, we, or most of us, need our jobs. To be let go is crushing. It's hard on our families and most of all to us personally.

I finally got to talk to the SOB Director of Compliance, after 2 weeks of leaving voice mails and waiting for him to call me back I had to get rude with his secretary and she put me through to him. Big Surprise! He lied to me when he said if I can prove it was only for Child Support I would be fine and he would help me out! I was fired today because of the arrest on my background. I just dont understand why they even put me through this, my recruiter knew all about the arrest before she invited me to orientation so why would they waste time and money training me for 3 weeks, drop me off at a terminal all the way across the country and send me home on a miserable 48 hour bus ride home? WERNER SUCKS!

Werner really does not need a reason to terminate any driver. At will employment means just that. Either party can terminate the employment without cause at any time.

Sounds like to me like they took a chance on you despite your prior history and for some reason they did not feel that it paned out for them so they gave you the hook.

Best to check with DAC on the official reason for termination before you go elsewhere.

Have to agree with Bigblue on this one. "At will" certainly means that they can do that. I am in Ohio and its considered an "at will" state. If your employer doesnt like the pattern on your shirt or the color of your eyes, They can let you go. You can fight it but it won't do you any good. Best to lick your wounds and go on.
Big is giving you excellent advice about checking your DAC too. You might be happy with what you see or be in for an unpleasant surprise. Best to get it cleaned up ASAP if there is a problem. Good luck.

You're right, there are lines and lines waiting to go anywhere they can get work as a driver. All of these people want a job driving. Some have realistic expectations and a great many don't. The majority of them want to support themselves and possibly a family. It's the great American dream... They certainly have no idea that they are going to, as you put it, "get screwed" They are there because they want/need a job.
With driver retention being the way it is, over 100%, and most leave the job in the first 90 days, I believe that's the stat. A huge % of those who leave Werner or any other company in that first 90 never go back to driving a truck, they leave the industry. The experience hasn't been at all what they envisioned. So, the company has another seat to fill. Gotta keep those trucks out on the road. LOL.With many companies going out of business there are a lot of good experienced drivers looking for jobs. They will be placed long before a trainee or recent grad will be. No company wants the turnover rate the way it is. Actually it costs a lot of money each time they hire a driver, so the companies really would like to see lovgivity believe it or not. At least that's my opinion for what its worth. And there are some days it's not worth two dead flys.
