I saw an earlier comment about reefer ok if you can do it. What is difficulty with working reefers? My brother-in-law (died two months ago) suggested to me a year or so ago that I should consider reefer work. He thought it was ok (he was driver and mechanic for 30-some years).

Reefers are easy, check the fuel when you fuel up and if there is a problem a code will come up. I think tarping down a flat bed would be a bigger pain in the butt then a reefer.

Hello neighbor, I see that you are a Inland boy as well. I live up near Lake Arrowhead.
Reefers really aint that bad to do as long as you can sleep with the motor running right outside your cab & you can handle shifting you sleep patterns around. We have a lot of 1am - 4am appt. times.
I must say I would ask the same to you about running local. I see the Robertsons rig in your Av. I was thinking about joining up with them, but I hear things are not going to well right now, but thats understandable.
Theres nothing to it. Why anybody would want to go flatbedding is byond me. My trainer just left Central yesterday & took his W9 with him & is headed to Landstar to do flatbed. -
I have done both i prefer Refer over flat bed. I hated trying to tarp in the wind and in extreme heat and cold weather when i worked for SMX in 2001.
It takes a little time to secure a load after getting loaded, there is also a lot of physical labor involved and you can get pretty dirty chaining and tarping.
With the refer you just stick in a load lock and shut the doors and away you go. there is a lot more you have to do with a flatbed than a refer i guess that's why i like the refer.
I just monitor the temp and make sure the fuel tank has fuel, With flat bed you have to constantly check the securement and the tarp when you have to use one. -
