If your a company driver does your company offer pre tax investments. 401k with a company match. Max out the company contribution for sure. Second if it comes out of your check before you get it you can't spend it.

Next set up an auto withdrawal from a checking account that goes to a Roth IRA. Have this happen right after you pay check gets deposited. Again if you don't have it you can't spend it.

I also have money taken out of my check as a payroll deduction. It goes towards buying company stock at a fifteen percent discount.

As everyone else says stop spending money of frivolous things. Stop eating out it's expensive. Anything at the truck stop is so much more expensive. Buy your stuff elsewhere unless using points.

OK a bit of real advice.

Write down every thing you spend any money on for a month, then break down your major expenses to find out where you are wasting the money at.

I made a living on the cheap for a long time, sometime I eat well for $10 a day and it wasn't junk food.

How can you save 1k a week? I'm a company driver, I gross 2k a week but my biweekly net is only 2400 (1200 a week take home) I pay 1400 in taxes every two weeks alone (single no kids) 7% to 401k and 48 to medical so even though I make 100k, I take home peanuts. I do support of a lot of illegals, welfare recipients and government workers though. Also last year I owed money too come tax time even though I claimed 0/0 the entire year

    Coover Thanks this.

This is almost as halarious as the post that I quoted
Who are you to decide what should or shouldn't be a financial killer or how much is to much for a grown man to spend on the road?

    tucker Thanks this.

]Maybe some drivers want to eat as cheaply as possible.
Maybe some drivers want to eat a nice meal every evening at a pub and #### chat with other people.
    .
Who cares whether someone spends 20 dollars a week or 300 dollars a week?
    .

    .
Maybe we’re all different and have different financial goals.
    .
Maybe we should start a thread so we can judge drivers on how much they spend on pet food.

I like to actually eat food, not canned goods and pbnj's and deli meat sandwiches. It's fine to eat at a restaurant everyday or grabbing food from the line. You have to eat too, no need to live like a rat in a ship.

Dude you got me laughing at you. I only stated a opinion. The OP, or any others reading my posts can take it or leave it. The original question was how can he save money on the road and I gave my piece. Not telling anyone what to do, just sharing what I would do. So, Mr. Confrontational, why don't you share an opinion instead of coming at me for my thoughts?
