Most of your trips through Canada will just be in-transit, to cut down on miles. It's not uncommon to go through the UP of Michigan and come out in Vermont or New York. I have picked up in Canada a few times. As a flatbedder, you might see Perth, Ontario, but I haven't in a long time--I think Certainteed must have found a cheaper provider. The last time I was in I went up to Winnipeg to deliver, then had the load from hell instead of just sending me the 60 miles or so back to the States.

I enjoyed your post. I was pre-hired by them. I was lined up to go to training and the day before they called me and told me because of a suspension (that I put on the application) I can't get on for another 6 months. I was pissed because this was planned out well. I was able to give my job a month notice and then I was sitting jobless and just in a bad spot. It is good to hear they aren't regularly like that to everyone. Hey mistakes happen

Look at the bright side. You can use the extra time to move everything in your home to someplace other than Pittsburgh. :)

In all honesty, they really needed to tighten up their hiring standards. I've seen the general quality of the drivers going down and talked to one with a past DUI. At least the bad economy is good for something. (Not commenting on your suspension, I have no idea what the reason was--but I'm not a fan of drunk drivers having a CDL.)

Just want to say thanks for all the useful info on Roehl. I'am going to Marshfield on March 1st for orientation. Can anyone give me some insight on the tax advantage pay plan? They recommend it for me. Will I really take home more money than on Premium pay? and how significant of a difference is there between the two?

    thanks in advance.

When you get in to your own truck you will realize that it won't matter what pay plan you are on, you aren't going to make enough to even notice the difference. If Roehl recommended something to you I would suggest that you do the opposite. They don't do anything that doesn't benefit them. If you need to know more about Roehl, look in the "Bad companies" forum.

I wouldn't worry too much about what Homeboy says until reveals what the secret great company where he now works is.

I didn't mean for any of you to worry. I also expected Mr. Bucksandducks or some "trainer" to appear and put me down. You still with the Big Red Machine? How's it goin' over there? Still training people? How many in the past year or so? Where are they coming from? Why are there so many openings over there if that place is so great? Oh, my opinion doesn't count since I wasn't a trainer. Gotcha.

What possible difference could it make to you what company I work for? Does it negate any of what I say about Roehl? If Roehl was so great I may still be with them!
Changing the subject doesn't negate anything, bucks, but your response only reaffirms that you can't refute what I say so you attack me because I'm telling the truth about Roehl and I like my present job.

The difference is your pay is in two parts one is a per diem reimbursement pre tax (10 cents per mile) and the rest is paid as normal taxed salary. You save paying tax on part of your income especially in some states that don't allow per deim deductions on state income tax. You also don't have to keep receipts for tax reporting. The down side is Roehl charges you 1 1/2 cents per mile for record keeping and when your annual income is reviewed as in applying for a loan or receiving social security your per deim income is not counted reducing your income buy about 1/3. You should talk to your tax preparer or a CPA before making a decision on this as its pretty complex.

Homeboy, have read back over you previous posts and have concluded you have a BIG BIG problem with Roehl and I am thinking you now drive bulk (might be wrong). Rather than just "lash out" please provide more info my man. Not interest in sour grapes just the facts please my man.
