Thanks folks for all the input. Took an ecm off another truck and it started fine. So there's your answer. ECM went bad. Thanks again.
2002 detroit 60 series shut down and will now only start with starting fluid.

Hello again,
I'm back for another round guys, Replaced the ecm on my 02 Western Star, with 12.7 liter 60 series detroit. Took it for a test drive yesterday. It ran like a freight train. Went to start it today. to hook to trailer, it acts like its missing and the check engine light stays on. If you hold the diagnostic button down, it flashes 61 first, then 31, 34 and 36. If you let it run long enough, the Stop Engine light will come on. What the heck? Someone suggested injector wiring harness problem. Could that make it throw all those codes? -
Sounds like you're having a connection issue on of the ecm plugs. As far as I can see the fault codes are not really related to each other. If you're codes are the same as a ddec111 this is what I get. 61. injector response long, 31 engine brake low open circuit, 34 turbo boost sensor input voltgage low, 36 high range oil pressure sensor input voltage low. I think the last one will cause a engine stop. Bad connection is what I think.

Checking codes on ECM helps diagnose a problem, but doesn't tell you the problem. All that code will do is tell you a sensor detected an electronic malfunction for the voltage reading from that sensor wasn't normal. It can't tell you what is mechanically wrong with that vehicle. That is where good diagnostics comes in.You are correct to check ECM though for he would have learned that was the problem before replacing sensors.

You need to check your connections to your ECM as well as voltage going to it. Make sure battery connections are good and no ECM fuses are blown. Having intermittent power to ECM will throw a bunch of codes as well as the bad connection on the ECM plug.

SIR.
Don't be doing that again. Please. A 5 gallon bucket of boom can essentially try to debone you. There is only like roughly 7000 hospital beds with that kind of skilled care for your potential injury.
I'll think about this a bit more today and promise to be a little more constructive and hope you promise me and everyone here you won't be doing anymore of those hairbrained 5 gallon plans. -
Samething is happening to my husband truck today
