I am looking at Nationwide Express, Jackson, TN terminal as a prospective employer. I am a 6 mo. driver and live in Tennessee. Do they have a good rapport for drivers, pay, benefits, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Don't know to much about them and I don't see anything in a search foe the company, other then 6 month training contract. This could be a good sign that the company is fairly decent.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 25, 2009

I applied to Nationwide Express but ultimately decided against them two weeks ago. They are generally a good company but they do require a six month contract and you cannot take the truck home with you. You will be home most every weekend. Somewhat restrictive ridealong policy and you cannot have inverters in their trucks. They are very anal about drivers doing anything to the trucks. If you so much as change a lightbulb, they will threaten to fire you. I personally have no problem with that, though. I was wanting to drive, not be a mechanic. 99% of their loads are no touch and a large amount is drop and hook. They are owned by Charlie Coffey, UT football alumnus. Their equipment is mostly Volvos and are fully decked out. They upgrade their trucks every two years so that is a plus. You are required to have your Hazmat to work for them.
Mainly, I chose against them due to their starting pay (28 cents per mile) and the rider policy. I did not mind the contract because where I go I plan to stay a year anyway. -
I hope its a good company because I intend to give them a try. I went to ATL this past week to a company that refused to pay for my dinner while I was in orienitation. I ultimately rejected thier offer because if they were to cheap to pay for orienitation and dinner ofr three days, then I was in for a world of do do. Guess what the name of the company was that I turned down.

DO you know if they actually haul Hazmat loads or is this a way to get something else done? The reason I say this is because I see a background check for an American is hideous. Well, not really, it is a way to rip off the driver for money for an item that doesn't make a difference. Just my opinion.

Not really, You will be treated like sheep. I have recently left there. Dispatch can't or won't find a happy median. they stress on running "legal" then dispatch you a 900 mile run that has to be there the next morning with no relay available.this is after you have already went 5-600 miles. The trucks are set at 64mph. Do the math..
Safety turns turn her head when you ask about it. I do have to say one thing nice about them. They do have nice multi-million dollar shop at shelbyville. It is just that.
Their spare parts to fix even the minor stuff is non existence. -
Then they don't feed you. It took me 13 hours to get to Atlanta from East Tennessee because of road construction and i only got 2 hours sleep in a 3rd rate hotel. They fed us sandwiches for lunch but we were on our own for dinner. -
I worked for Nationwide for almost 3 years. They kept me running like a scalded dog, I would get 3,500 per week, and still did it legally (though i couldn't understand how they made that legal?) and they wanted me to pay for some damage to the vehicle caused by poor setup by the shop, that they never made anyone else pay for, which happened even to my trainer... when the Peterbilt 387 airbags would not fill up completely and pull out from under the truck correctly, it would stand up too high and damage the rear of the truck. It did it several times to me, but I am the only one they made pay for the repair out of 50 drivers it happened to. I quit. My trainer told them they better not make him pay for it. He told them he would sue. They never charged him or anyone else, but they sure charged me for it. i wasn't there long enough to have any weight with them. They asked me to do a 2,000 mile haul in 2 days after running 650 miles ending after midnight of the day they asked me... I refused and that was the beginning of the end for me.
