Trucking is the easiest job ever. Trust me the office job isn't easy I had the fancy job in the skyscraper and my head would literally be pounding with stress since you have to operate at 300% brain capacity it was a mental challenge every second. Just stick with it and it will get easier. I am a company driver and I control the managers since over the years I become best friends with the big guys that are in charge of everything and people know not to screw me or they'll be hearing from their boss.

My current location is the Space way Truck Stop in Meridian MS. Eating the cheeseburgers here always helps with the stress.

I can see that in that company, you're right. But again, there are so many companies out there that *DO*. We watch HOS all day everyday - scheduling can always be moved if someone is out of time. We take it very seriously.
It's a real shame! Forced dispatching is a direct violation of DOT laws and regulations. It blows my mind that companies are willing to risk their business over this.

    Hey Bud,

I went thru this same #### at Bison, its a mega carrier thing, thankfully at Challenger you're getting paid more and don't slip seat.

Just remember, you're there to get your 1 year of experience, then you can move on to a good company. Its how I did it, most of the guys I know in trucking did it and until more companies accept new drivers; this is how it's going to be.

Just remember not to take it personally, they don't so neither should you. Don't smoke or start getting into bad habits or vices to cope. Stand up for yourself, explain life, they're not going to fire you trust me. Also don't be afraid to talk to Driver Services or your Terminal manger, and ask to switch fleets or dispatchers. Get on reefer fleet if you can, they usually have a few more brain cells and better planning.

The good thing about starting like this, is you are going to learn some amazing time management. Thus when you get to a good company, that only plans you to drive 9hrs a day, and gives you the correct appt times and pickup numbers; you're gonna be a superstar.

Just learn the job now, pay attention to fuel and prices, dealing with shippers/receivers, always be nice to everyone on the dock. The year is gonna fly by, and before you know it, you will be starting with ERB or J&R Hall.

Like the guys above, I did the University thing, and it was more stressful than trucking. In an office, they own you, and they get to abuse you all day/night/24/7. I would never go back, EVER.

The only problem I have is I was a bad kid, and the Americans knew it at the time. The first half of my career I ran north/south. Was no big deal because I always stopped at the border every 6 months to get an INS multi entry permit. In other words, they have pre-researched you. Like a get out of jail free card if the goons wanted to hassle you at the border. Mr. Johnson anybody?

Anyways, I had gotten sick of the nonsense at the border after 911. Moved to the interior, so didn't worry about whatever changes were happening about the border. I moved back down to the east end of the fraser valley, so I figured I'd better get one of thee new FAST cards. So I applied online. I get a letter telling me to go to the American side on a certain date to answer some questions. Standard. But one of the questions on the online application was if I was every pardoned. I said yes. Of course it was a joint US and Canada online form. Anyhow, the border guy told me I was committing fraud. he said I was never pardoned by the US. Big argument ensued. And it urned out when the DHS took over from the INS they had scoured every computer in the US, and found my lawful declaration of offences from when I was a minor. That was why I didn't get my FAST card. I told them even their own guys minor records are sealed. Appealed upstairs. Anyhow, I'm still good to go with my passport. But no hazmat for me. No big deal. But a lot of companies now demand a FAST card, ( two reasons, either they're signed up to that program, or they don't want to pay border wait times) like Challenger. So it makes it a bit more difficult for me with a zillion miles of experience in both countries to get a gig running down there now.

Trucking is the least stressful job I’ve had in life. It’s amazing to get paid to travel and explore the beautiful USA. I can’t imagine being stuck at a boring 9-5 all day, with an idiot boss breathing down my neck.

It's a good gig but some places have Dispatchers that send passive aggressive messages and call you saying, 'whats going on, why arn't you moving?', when you're doing everything your supposed to. I had one like that and he hated me for some reason, I was never late but treated me like I could never do any load. Talks #### on the phone and messages and when you have to come in to see them hes your best buddy. Bipolar retard dispatchers are the worst.

Other than that the job is good when the world around you isn't falling through. Chill job where you're alone 90% of the time and great sightseeing.
