Robotic trucks probably will not put drivers out of business. If anything they will augment the industry to meet the demands of a growing population. I'm not to concerned. However I did read an article about "platooning" trucks. The idea is four trucks would be tied together through wireless technology. The lead truck would have a driver and the three follow on trucks would be robotic. One of the mega parcel carrier's was testing this concept.

whether its autonomous trks, teams or whatever, they will do whatever is cheaper to do and better for the bottom line, period.

I’ll just call all the robot truckers snow flakes and tell them they could never drive my twin stick Mack with no air ride.
ProfessionalLunatic and Oldironfan Thank this. -
Dang twin stick brownie trans you are a real hero. I only wish I could drive that classic ride that was made here 100% American.Fold_Moiler Thanks this.

Really guys where robotics will help is in the warehouses where there are too many people screwing around costing us time. The human factor for loading can be eliminated and when we are talking about trucks being loaded for two and three hours now, it may be 20 to 30 minutes for palletized freight going on the truck and out the door the truck goes.
Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I wish, I was just joking, it was just the truck that came to mind because my co worker actually yelled that at me today.
My truck is still old by today’s standards but not that old.Oldironfan Thanks this. -
Best loading time I ever had with dry van was a load of empty aluminum cans. They had them all lined up to the dock and pushed them all in at once like a choo choo train. A few inflated bags on the sides, sign the bills, pull out, swing the doors (who KNEW swinging doors shut could be so hard?), and I'm on my way.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.
