Is there anywhere that I can see how drivers have rated the different trucking companies? The only opinion that counts to me is the drivers. I plan on becoming one within the year. Also is there information about income ranges that a newbie could find somewhere? Thanks, Bubba

These companies could go a long way towards improving their relations with their drivers if they would quit hiring these young wet behind the ears, not ready for long pants kids as dispatchers. I have had two dispatchers that were worth something and surprise, surprise...they were both older ex-drivers. I'm not saying we didn't have our "set to's" what I am saying is they could tell the difference between venting and real problems. These kids sit in a cubicle looking at a computer screen and can't figure out why it takes over five hours to drive from Chicago to St. Louis. After all, it's only a couple of inches on the map.
RERUN, luvtheroad and davan2004 Thank this. -
They hire them for the following reasons: 1.They went to college 2. no bad habits can be trained the company way 3. no industry knowledge 4. most important--- they can be hired cheaper than the experienced person.
We all had to start somewhere, but dont just take a person who cant spell TRUCK, give them a week and turn them loose to make decisions and have someones career in their hands. Then again, some of them, no matter how much training they have will never learn the business. Its just a paycheck. If you're lucky they get promoted and go into sales LOL -
If a company reads it, they are part of the SCREW-UP. Lets see if they change the way they do things.....Would be nice, for me anyway, to once again enjoy this job.

why did you get let go? Be honest or no one can help you.

Could you please tell me where you are getting your information or is it your opinion. If you have anything that would verify what you've stated, I sure would like to see it...

I realize tao has more years on the road than I do, but I have to disagree with much of what he says about trucking. Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending these companies that say one thing and then do something else. I was always taught that any company with high turnover has bad management and/or poor pay. When you brag that you only have a 97% turnover rate you are living with your head in the sand. Think about that, it means that of one hundred drivers hired only three will celebrate one year with your company. Does anyone see a problem here? As for the CDL Mills, all any of them are going to do is get you your CDL. Any experienced driver that is honest will tell you it takes as much as a year to really figure out how to drive a truck. It can take even longer if you have teachers like I had, they didn't teach they just yelled at you when you made a mistake.
There are enough companies that allow you to run at least close to legal that you don't need to work for someone who makes you run illegal. I have never had a company tell me to even touch another companies trucks or trailers. I have seen where we have cannibalised our own equipment, not out of cost, but to save time. The figure of ten thousand deaths a year involving trucks seems high. I haven't looked up the recent numbers, but it seems awfully high. Most companies do not have forced NYC or Canada for experienced drivers. Roehl's Hometime is different because it has guarenteed hometime so NYC is the tradeoff. Those who haven't been to Canada I can tell you the problem is getting out of Canada back to the US. It's a pain.
I guess I'm saying that while I have no love for these companies, I'm not going to start accusing them of things that aren't true. The simple fact is that driving is a hard career and these companies make it even harder than it needs to be.davan2004 and luvtheroad Thank this. -
I dont know if you are talking to me but the reason was; lack of communication. I dont not have signal qualcum and my phone was broke,my disp. was told this two days before this happened Jersey to La then LA back to Jersey I told them that I could not make it I was out of time. So I pick it up drove as far as I could then shut down{out of driving time}. They could not get in touch with me so the next day i get a knock from a guy from petro said that I need to call in so I did they do every thing but cuse me out. I call my wife she told me they called her an told her off. so they sent a someone to get the load so i called back in told them that the switch has been made that when they told me to pack I was being let go< I said why because of lack of communication.

Not trying to bust your b#lls but none of this is the companies fault they have a toll free # that you could've stopped and used from anywhere for free. Going to be hard to explain that to any new job prospect they would more than likely want to know the same thing, why could you call when they sent someone out to your truck but not before then?
