And since several companies use third-party testers I guess that means the problem is not just with Swift. So I guess the liability would fall on the states that have allowed and failed to properly oversee the third party testing programs.

Also, the liability would fall upon the third-party examiner(s) - or rather, their employer - which, I'm guessing, must be some sort of private company operating under contract with that state's motor vehicles department.

Is this how it works in other states? Do you just call up some testing company and ask them for a road test?

We don't have third-party examiners in New York. The DMV itself gives witten and road tests through its examiners that work for the DMV.

Can you tell me who the third party testers are? I think I asked that before and maybe you didn't read it. That's okay. I KNOW who the third party testers are in this case. I wouldn't want you to be disloyal to your beloved company.:biggrin_25512:

In the Tennessee incident, we all know that the third-party testers were Swift Academy instructors who had been licensed by the State of Tennessee to perform the skills and road test examinations.

    No reply, "pawpaw"?

"steelerfan67", I never said that I could not name everything, but rather that I neglected to verbally state, out loud the items that I was "checking".

Hello all, Im also an old Swiftie.... I live in Ohio received my paper about 2 weeks ago. I drove for Swift for about 17 months. I have now been driving a fuel tanker for almost 2 years locally. This situation sucks, for alot of people... My situation, I found out have to retake everything also. Skills tests, and all endorsement tests over. I have also found out for anyone unsure you cannot take your road test in a placarded vehicle, which mine is so going to cost me 150.00 to rent a truck and 85.00 to take the test.

I was wondering if anyone knew, for some reason I cannot find information about this. If I fail any of the skill tests, do I lose my license for 30 days also for the state of ohio? Reason im wondering, is I drive a day cab with a 48 ft tanker now. I do not back up a whole lot anymore. I have to take my backing test now in a sleeper truck, and a 53 ft trailer. With no practice. Im sure backing never leaves ya, and I do a decent job when I need to back the tank up. But little different I use my back window alot lol. Since most of the places I get into I have to blind side... Just afraid of failing I guess. Not really sure what to do.

I do feel SOMEONE is responsible for the inconvenience this is causing everyone. Just don't know who is responsible. I feel swift knew what they were doing. But they have there loop holes to get out of it. You figure on average this is another 1,000.00 bucks lost. In the wages lost at work to take these tests and to rent and pay for the tests. And maybe another 4 grand if you don't pass the tests and lose your license for 30 days. Well guess im done venting... :biggrin_25510: Hope everyone has a good weekend!

    STL Guy:
I hear your frustration all too well. I went through the school in 2006 and worked for Swift for 18 months, then needed a break from trucking for a while... since it hadn't been the greatest of experiences working there. I ended up finding a job locally in a different field, but planned on returning to trucking which pays much better than what I'm doing now. At present I have been out of trucking for about 20 months. I haven't been in a rig in 20 months. I had planned on taking a refresher class when I decided to go back, which is obviously cheaper than doing the school all over again. But, now my home state of Michigan is requiring me to take the re-test (and it's a complete re-test for MI drivers including everything we took to get a CDL in the first place) and I can't afford the test let alone the $280 I was quoted to rent a truck. Not to mention I wouldn't feel safe just jumping in and doing all this without at least some time behind the wheel to practice backing, etc. They just didn't give me enough time and I just can't get the money together to do it. It is definitely irritating (to say the least) that everyone involved in this is blaming someone else. Michigan told me it is the school's fault, but apparently Swift (and their school) are saying it's Tennessee, etc. etc. Everyone is pointing fingers and nobody is doing anything to help the displaced CDL holders. But, it is to be expected. Nowadays everyone wants to pass the blame around rather than do what is right. So for me, in the meantime, I have to just let it go and hope something can be done later. Once they downgrade my license I'm going to see what I can do then... even if it means getting a lower CDL for the time being, but sadly this is happening when I have absolutely no way to do anything about it.

I'm not 100% positive about this, but I know Ohio does have some stipulation that if you fail there is a waiting period. My ex team driver had this happen to him when he first transferred his license to OH from what I remember. I would definitely call your testing agency and ask them for details (and if it is the same for all the tests or just driving, etc.).

    To all:
Has anyone who's lost their license or has had to re-test had contact with the FTC regarding the school, and if so, what were you told? I'm thinking of contacting them myself about this, but would like to know if anyone was told anything before I do (don't want to chase a fruitless cause). :biggrin_25512:
