Cents per mile seems pretty important to you. What if you $1.00 per mile and 500 mile for the week, do you want to rephrase your question?

I would guess somewhere around the low $.40s. You have some linehaul companies that pay $.60-70 cpm, but you still have more companies that find suckers to work for mid $.30s so it’d balance out somewhere on the lower end. Anything these days that isn’t at least $.40 cpm is insulting imo. And I’d never consider working for anything near that low personally...

You need to specify the type of truck driving job you're inquiring about. Local? Regional, OTR?, home nightly?, home yearly? flatbed? reefer? milk? fuel? nitro glycerin? no-touch freight? lump every case down a ramp and up a curb and into a freezer?

Determine what you will do and what you won't do and what you prefer and what your present options are nearby

You should make a little more CPM running reefer, but you have to factor in downtime, which is almost often greater in most reefer gigs with the multi-pick backhauls and wait time at each. So if you don’t get paid any detention or downtime, go with van because you will sit more doing reefer.

You also have things like occasional trailer washouts with reefer that eat up time and more equipment that can F up and break down. Plus it takes longer to fuel because it almost never fails that the jagoff ahead of you in the fuel island doesn’t pull up far enough to where you can reach the reefer tank with the pump.

I worry more about $$/hour honestly. I'm not sure how many out there would agree with me though.

You're average company is paying somewhere between .40-.50 cpm. That's keeping all types of trailers in consideration. You shouldn't be worried about cpm as much as if you're company can keep a load in or on that trailer daily.
