I have been there a time or two over the last 51 years! I like your early rigs and your progression to where you are today.

I will venture to guess that you may possibly be referring to the fact that backhauls should pay no less than the front haul. In my industry backhaul is a term referring to the traffic that repositions my rig back to my domiciled terminal, it has nothing to do with the rate I get either direction. My “backhaul freight” often pays more than my “front haul”. What one chooses to call something doesn’t require others to call it the same thing.

12 ft. back of cab to axle centerline stands out in my mind as a minimum measurement. There was a guy that went by pmm jarritt on the auto expiditors blog that did a full buildup several years back. I think i have the name correct so see if you can track him down.

I didn't want to throw 1000 questions at him sense I'm doing the job myself but do plan on buying some components from them . I was hoping to see a truck parked in Goshen and look at it and maybe take a few pictures ( no luck with that ) . I have built several trailers , truck beds over the years but was thinking a good look would save some time . The bed frame is what I'm interested in , sizes and types of steel to keep the bed as close to the truck frame as possible.
The dove tail I have a completely different plan for . It will be detachable .
I added a few pictures of my progress so far . 2.5 feet added , just 1 cut . I bought the rear of a single axle Volvo . Cut on an angle , plated on the inside and a crossmember . Each side of the cut has 11 grade8 fine thread 9/16 bolts .
Now for the adventure of building the bed !
