I run out of High Point. Charlotte would probably be the closest. Duncan SC could be close as well depending on where in wnc you are located. I think the rule is you have to live within 200 miles of a terminal to work there. My guess is some terminals will start hiring again in March/April. I am sending you a PM.

I headed into the terminal a couple of hours before my load time and got my fittings washed out from the snot load last week. I also wanted to have time to address any problems I might find with my truck and trailer. I had turned in a repair voucher when I got back to have some tractor lights fixed. They were done so I headed over to get loaded about 9:30 . That went great and I was on my way by 11:15. I was in no hurry and stopped for lunch and fuel at the Petro in Mebane NC.

I drove another few hours and shut down at the Petro in Ruther Glen Va just north of Richmond. My delivery appointment was 11:00 so I got up, took a shower, ate breakfast and headed north about 7:45 to go 133 miles. I figured If I was too early I would hang out at the rest area off 95 between the Washington beltway and Baltimore. I ended up needing the time due to traffic and got to Glenn Burnie MD 15 minutes early at 10:45. I will turn in an hour of traffic delay time for it.

I found the plant no problem but the people here didn't know what to do to me. They are anal about security. When I pulled up to the gate the guard holds up a bag and told me to take out a chip. I pulled out a white poker chip. He told me had I gotten a blue one that my truck would have been searched.

I pulled up to the next gate and was told to back out and go to a completely different gate on the other side of the plant. I drive over there only to be told to go back to the gate I started at. This time the guard told me to pull out a white chip holding the bag up where I could see them. I guess they have video cameras too. This time the second gate was a lot nicer and sent me over to a shipping office. The guy in there finally found someone who came out to escort me to the unload point. Now I know what flatbed drivers experience. This is an electric power plant under construction. I had to make my way around several oversize flatbed trucks. It was a busy place with PU trucks, fork lifts, cranes and cement trucks everywhere. It was real tight. I had to squeese into a road next to a trailer where they analize the product I am carrying. It looks like one of those big trailers they use for Television broadcasts. It wasn't straight off the road and I had to back halfway out a couple of times to get my trailer tandems to clear some concrete post fittings.

I finally got into the hole, vented the dome and was told it would take about 6 hours to unload me. I think I will take a little nap and watch some TV getting paid $13.30 an hour. Still don't know what I am doing after this. Baltimore dispatch is working on it for me. It looks like I will be sleeping at that terminal tonight unless they have a load sitting on the yard for me.

Wysrob, thanks for all great info. After reading yours and other posts I gave Superior a call as I want to get away from the freight boxes and start getting paid for my time as any drivers time is worth something but alot of these warehouses would'nt agree. I really liked hearing how thorough a training you had. I have a lot of experience but none in tankers. The economy stinks right now but for those that hang in there it will get better. Anyways I have a road test scheduled for Fri. in Karns City as I am a little over an hour away in Ohio. Keep up the good job and stay safe.

Hey there boss! I just joined this site and read your entries. It's great to hear a fellow driver talk so good about their company!! I've been with superior for 3 years now I started out of Karns City PA terminal came to Kingsport for orientation fell in love with the area and my wife and I moved hear last year. I must say that the last 3 years of driving with this company have been the highlight of my driving career. One thing to remember though...always make hay when the sun is shining!!! Though it sounds like HP is keeping ya rolling pretty good. Things have slowed a little here, mostly running DMT from Kport to Old Hickory, but it pays great!!! Just not used to working so hard...lol. I'm not cut out for local work, to lazy I guess or just plain spoiled. I really enjoyed reading your experiences with training I hope to meet ya at a terminal sometime to put a face to the words. Who knows I might have already met ya and didn't know it.My handle is Gargoyle or Gump, depends on who's hollaring. Take care and keep the shiney side up!!!

Oh yeah by the way if ya get up to Markham make a point to go to Hog wild and have the Pork chop...UNBELIEVABLE!!! I am a truck stop restaraunt con o sore (I think that's how you spell it) of sorts.:smt023

I couldn't tell you much about the OO program but the drivers out of my terminal and those I see on the road seem happy. You have a PM for a place where you can get some info.

Good luck with your road test. Karns City is one hell of a place for a terminal.
