In the old days when the employer paid for hotel rooms, we never took a room until after the load was delivered. I agree that truckers should practice better trip planning, but telling them to get a room for a ten-hour break is ridiculous.

They need to tell the shippers and receivers to pull their heads out of their butts, more like... Half of the time if a driver winds up stuck out somewhere, it's because one of the two has wound up dropping the ball!

Lets see, you hit the Va line heading north on 95. You have to deliver in Baltimore in the morning. You have 3.5 hours left. Do you stop now, and assure yourself og being late, and possible losing your job, or go on and hope to find a place to park, thereby making your appointment and saving your job.

This is why we always called Va the Communist state. I have been woke up and told to move on there as far back as 1977.

As far back as I remember, Va has always been hard nosed about truck parking. Stranger, if you are going to loose your job over being late one time, and when you properly trip plan, I might be looking for a better job... But that is not the question here. I have lived and worked in Northern Va for almost Ten years, in the past, I try to avoid being put in that position. I try to stop early enuff to be able to make my delivery appointment, and still have enuff time to deal with traffic. Yes it is not a good choice but like you I don't want to be late and or loose my job... Too many hings out of our control seem to show up in this area of the world. I just call it the East coast way. At the end of the day it is us (the truck drivers) that must suck it up and put up with the VSP and their enforcement tatics. Oh t's easy for them to say beter trip planning, and or get a motel room, do they have to pay? Heck no! We are again left holding the bag because some one else forced us to make a bad choice... I will say the motel room cost a lot less than the tickets, and thats still not good. Oh and can you find a motel with truck parking? So I'm left with stop earlier than I want to and fight traffic in the AM to make my delivery, thus having less hours available to pick up the next load. Yep we loose again... :biggrin_2551:

If only it was that easy. I'd trust the police to call a towing company rather than the DOT.

What's the max parking time for 4-wheelers at VA rest stops?

    Seems like discrimination to me.

And why did VA allow Californians to move there and bring their asinine laws with them?:biggrin_2551:

What needs to happen is for truckers to get a signature on the logbook to move or else. Then when you are ticketed or involved in an accident get a good lawyer and give them a taste of their own medicine. They are gunning for truckers let the state start getting sued for causing a hazard. People want to milk the drivers to make money. It's about time drivers start milking the unfriendly truck states.
