Trucker Sentenced In Crash That Killed Linden Girl

More than three years later, a Linden couple has finally got some closure in the tragic death of their daughter. 15-year-old Janelle Durk was in the back seat of the family car in July of 2006 as they made their way back to Michigan from visiting relatives when they came to a back-up in Illinois reportedly caused by an over-booked semi-truck driver who fell asleep at the wheel and jack-knifed on the freeway. Their car was subsequently hit by another semi-truck that failed to stop behind them, which caused Janelle to suffer fatal injuries. High doses of methamphetamine and marijuana were found in 50 year old Robert Whitney's system and it was later learned he had been driving for 40 hours straight with only two, two-hour breaks.
