Just got my license friday in Mass, where should I look?

Hey, ok I just got my Class A with double/triples and tanker ( no HAZMAT yet). I'm not sure where to look for a job. My employment history was very good untill about 2006 till my Dad was diagonist with terminal cancer. I decided to be with him and help him and since I don't really have any bills, it didn't matter. From what I read alot of company's don't like employment gaps. What should I write on my resume? Who should I apply to? I would like to stay local but going OTR for a year is ok also. Any idead would be great!
    Thanks

Well, you won't need the resume. As you'll be filling out applications.

If you do an on line resume. You need to note the gap, and that you have signed documentation (other people) supporting the gap. Preferably notorized, since it's a 3 year gap.

Local will most likely be out of the question, in the current economy.

Start with every training company you can find :D

And be prepared to be rejected, a lot. Your location doesn't help. And many companies are holding a very long list of students looking for a chance in a down economy.

What should the signed documentation say on it? I wasn't collecting any money, more or less I just spent some quality time with my Dad before he died.

It should say what you were doing and why.

And friends, neighbors, Doctors, and family will be able to vouch for this. Hence the documentation.

You can apply without it. But you will have to explain why the gap. Then provide some supporting evidence/documents.

There was a time, I felt it would have been easier to claim I was homeless, and living in a box. For my gaps.

It depends on the company. But they are required (federal law) to document your past employment/work history, or the lack thereof.

Yes...you are unskilled. But you're also an extreme security risk to our nation.

Who knows, you might take a load of bull#### to DC and try to light it :biggrin_2554:

Now don't laugh but put homemaker. seriously. they ask, Say What? You say father had cancer and i took care of him his last few years.

And what to do with that brand new shiney CDL. Put it in your pocket and go to college or trade school. Get a degree or something. And when frieght picks up again some day, you'll still have that cdl and if you still want to drive then go for it.

I had the same problem when i started in 04, i got all the way down to tennassee to covenant transport and 3 days into orientation they told me I need 3 notorized letters explaining why I was unemployed for a couple of years (this is after I already filled out an app with my employment/unemployment history and got hired) I fineshed orientation , took a bus back to NY got the letters and faxed them in and finally they had a trainer come pick me up, this took about 3 weeks. Anyway My letters were only a couple of lines long, they basically said I was taking a couple of classes in community college (that was a lie) and was living with my parents who finantiall ysupported me. I copied it 3 times and had two of my buddies get it notorised and one of my mothers freiends. You should ask the company specifically what the letters need to say before you bother because its a pain in the ### to get them notorised.

Try Eastern Seaboard Packaging in Holliston . They have hired drivers right out of school . Also check landscaping and construction companies . They may need snowplow drivers .
