If you’ll be over 65’ when hooked up to your trailer, YES. You’d just want a fifth wheel and fenders behind the cab, or sleeper wall.

I think I see many crew-cab 1 ton dually pickups with 8' beds pulling 40' gooseneck trailers in the hotshot business. This is going to put them just a little over the 65' length I would think (between 66 -67' overall). Are they having any legal issues with this? Or are these trailer not as long as I think?
And then there are all these tractor-trailers (semi-truck) that are pulling 53' trailers. They must be over 65' overall I'd think? Am I missing something here? Just curious.

Not necessarily. If they're driving a crew cab dually older than 2010 they're probably just under 65'. If they're truck is 2010 or newer and they're pulling. 40' trailer, like us they probably had the trailer made with a shorter neck to keep them from going over 65'.

    I have 7 trucks currently. .all 1 ton with 35 +5...works well..we run all 48.

Truck and trailer empty is about 20k so I usually keep payload under 20k to be under 40 total. .we are registered for 43k just in case we have to get a little heavy at times, even tho 42k is the most i would go under normal circumstances due to axle and tire capacity. You will be good with a 35 +5 and a tarp..u can haul just about anything and consistently hit $6000 to $8000 a week or more running partials..depending on the lane and freight.
what configuration you use to go 43000 pounds?

i have a ford f450 super duty and a big tex 37 feet doble axle trailer can i go for 43000 pounds ?

No your not missing anything. A 1 ton's towing capacity is somewhere around 31-32k. Follow your manufactures guide for towing capacity. Not everyone is running legal out here. If your under your GVWR for the truck and trailer that doesn't mean your within your setups towing capacity. If you injure someone you can bet your gunna take it up the @#$. DOT can shut you down as well if they know what to look for. As far as legal lengths go most states recognize trucks with a bed on them as 65 foot. Some states count the bed as part of the length of the trailer which can put your trailer over length. Every state has different requirements for length as well as how they measure length including overhang off the back. Best thing to do is call the states permit departments and ask questions about the setup your using ie….. pickup truck with bed 67 foot long overall length....blah blah blah. Find out if your legal to run through the state or not with your current setup. It's best to know where your going to be running and get this info before you purchase a trailer or truck. This way you know what to buy to meet the requirements. If you want the least amount of hassle, I recommend that you get your class A first. Run a cab and chassis setup as most states will consider you a tractor and allow tractor trailer length limits. If your running a 5th wheel instead of a gooseneck you can be shut down in some states without that class A. Wisconsin is an example of that.

Are your 7 one-ton trucks crew cab pickups? I'm good on my weights and have my Class A CDL. I'm just wondering about my overall length? With a 40' gooseneck behind my Ram one-ton crew, I'm going to be right at 66' long. I have a standard 8' pickup bed on my truck.

What trailer manufacturer do use to get the custom shorter neck? I'm interested....... Sounds like a good plan maybe.

We're pulling LoadTrail trailers here. The dealer we go to is www.thetrailerguys.com out of Trenton, TX. Talk to Chase, tell him Gary out in California told you to call him. He will get you the shorter neck on whatever type of trailer you decide you want.

    markew56 Thanks this.

I've been doing alot of reading on here in regards to the hot shot business. I have been running for a little bit doing odds and ends trips and I'm looking to upgrade my trailer. I have a 2016 F350 CC dually and my trailer is a 2009 25+5 Trailermann trailer. This trailer has 2 7k axles. It was owned by a previous hotshot guy who ran it coast to coast and I then I got it and it's been beat. I'm looking to upgrade like stated. I have been looking at all makes but have landed on the Load Trail brand. I'm looking at 40' with hydro dove. Are these worth it? Pros/cons of them. I know with my 30' hauling two cars or two pieces of equipment took alot of planning then having to wrestle with the 3 ramps removing pins and ramps that are 100+lbs just to squeeze items on. I'm merely thinking a 40' hydro dove is best for an instance where two pickup trucks need to be hauled and I dont need to mess with having to rig the ramps in a vehicle position etc when I can't flip them over.

    Thoughts.

I will also add that the trailer I'm looking at has 12k axles with electric over hydraulic disc brakes.
