The milk run process was fed by important increase of different options in modern cars, the
emergence of flexible assembly lines where 2or 3 different models are built successively on
the same line and the trend of European vehicle manufacturers to built to order a majority
of cars (around 80%). All this means more mixed small loads to deliver.
Milk run reduces inventories of incoming materials, makes lead time predictable even for
items of variable consumption and smooths the receiving workload. Milk run is just one
part of the jit concept, the other ones being the merge in transit cross dock and the se-
quencing center; this one located usually nearby the assembly plant.
The jit delivery process is costly and very demanding for suppliers, carriers as well as ma-
nufacturers. However the added value of jit includes material handling reduction, less spa-
ce needed at the production facilities, more flexibility in the market, a greater competitive-
ness produced by the reduction of the production costs and more pressure for quality on
the suppliers. It sure that the jit system increases the stress over production and distribu-
tion, any mistake soon became a disaster.
A concrete exemple: At the Chrysler Jefferson North plant in Detroit, if a load don't arrive on time and production comes to a halt it cost $11,000 a minute, and the tab is picked up by
the transport company. Here comes the urgent freight specialist but its high cost is nothing
in front of the saving brings by the jit system. It's because the most costly part of the sup-
ply chain for the manufacturers are inventory, space at the assembly plant and high cost of
labor at the plant.Everything which reduce those costs his very big money. Over the money
saving, it's the capacity to produce vehicles efficiently which is on the table.
The numbers of the Chrysler Brampton assembly that i'm familiar with tell everything.
Production Logistics
--------------- -------------
1,400 cars/day 570 inbound loads/day
2,500 parts/cars 95 outbound carboard loads/day
3.5 million parts/day 80 outbound empty container loads/day
Inventory: 1 to 3 hours In-plant switching: 650 trailers/day
Inventory in transit: 2.2 days**
** on the road in trailers
inside a cross dock
Whithout the jit system the plant would be submerged by a pilling up of parts.

I'm tired. My parents had a tree big tree fall down in the back yard of there house. They have to get a tree service out there to get it cleaned up it's kind of a project and finding a tree company is kind of challenging. Of course they want the thing gone right now, and that's not going to happen. But it's because it's a big problem right now and after a day or two they will calm down. My dad wants to take care of it him self but it's to big of a job and he knows it and that's ticking him off. Either way the tree's not going anywhere over night so to bad it'll go when it goes, it's a fake emergency that they created. The tree was big, but it really didn't damage anything they got real lucky.
Usually I eat dinner at there house every night, but my mom and dad were ticked at each other and some of our extended family for some issue that had to do with my grandmothers house that were trying to sell it was over the choice in realtor they chose to go with anyhow, my mom was not a happy camper and they were all angry at each other and the fallen tree didn't help and I decided I had enough, and went home where I looked at my own landscaping and was totally disgusted so I said Mom I'm going home I have to cut the grass and figure something out with my own yard. So everyone got fed up and disgusted hopefully tomorrow cooler heads prevail.
Anyhow, all that's why I have no update to this thread for today.Mike_77 Thanks this. -
Who knew that mowing the lawn was a escape tactic. I am sorry to hear about the issues you dealt with.

Family is not always the heaven but at the end of the day it's the most precious benefit of the life. -
Well they got over there troubles. My parents neighbor came over and he's helping my dad with the tree. It's still a lot to haul away.
My parents wanted the tree service to just come out right away with there trucks and crew and haul it all away the minute they called. Well that's not how tree services work so my dad and neighbor are cleaning it up they'll get it them selves. Fine.
Anyhow I'm busy in my own yard taking a break right now. I was hauling loads of mulch from my garage to fill my flower beds with mulch then I would refill my wheel barrow with thatch or dead grass that I pulled out of my yard and haul that back to the garage. All this agricultural hauling made me feel like I was TNT Wallace Colville Express.
Wallace Coleville Express was I think also under the TNT United Flag and Wallace Coleville hauled primarily agricultural goods.Mike_77 Thanks this. -
This is TNT United:
I've never searched for them, but TNT United was a TNT full truck load hauler in the United States of America.Mike_77 Thanks this.
