Thank you all for the information on this subject. I've allways heard about deregulation but never knew what exactly it was all about. I now have a some what better understanding of it. Allthough more information never hurt anyone. Again Thanks.

 

It's been a long time since you been to this forum old-timer but i think i am going to put this back into the lime-light again.

The words you spoke here only confirm to me what has been done to the trucking industry.Cheap drivers and corporate cut throat big companies destroyed a great business.And you are right it was not the unions that created this,it is the corporate greed led by cheap drivers.

Rest assured old timer,it's only getting worse,it's right on schedule.We have new breeds here bringing home $250.00 pay checks calling themselves a ''truck driver'' and working for mexican wages and big corporates lining there greedy pockets laughing all the way to the bank.

It's hard to compete in this business with the drivers we have today willing to take it down the road for .50 cents a mile..

This is not a ''union'' problem,this is not really a corporte greed problem.This is a ''DRIVER'' PROBLEM...

Drivers will blame the world and never own up to this sad fact,but it is what it is.

Drivers have no one to blame but themselves,because they will work cheap and then whine about it.

I too have been pumbled by ''drivers''.I had great accounts over the years from New England to Cali paying $6,000 one way..Them days are gone.Today they are taking it there for $2,100 telling everyone they are making ''big money''..

Okay, it's time for me to chime in. What did deregulation do to the industry? Drivers are getting what, $0.14/mile these days? When I was growing up my dad was making good money in the teamsters union. Granted, the union was a bunch of gangsters but who is looking out for us now? Those ICC regs were an anachronism and needed change but the outcome was almost certainly intended to bust up the union(s). All during that period of deregulation some interesting questions started to surface. More than anything else who is maintaining these fleets? If an indy breaks down what happens to your freight? It got to the point where anyone who could make a down payment on a tractor could hit the road and do pretty much whatever he wanted to do. All sorts of safety issues started to pop up. I've seen, and you have too, some driving that would not have happened before deregulation. I had considered returning to driving but so much has changed it hardly seems viable.
