Hi.
I have a 2016 Peterbilt 579 and the AC quit working while I'm sitting still.
It sorta works while I'm driving down the road but it seems to be fading.
Any ideas?
I'm taking it to a TA shop because Peterbilt is closing soon. I just wanted to compare what you guys have to say with what TA says.
Thank you for your replies!

I usually fast idle, 1000 RPM and I'll switch the fan on manually because it's easier on the fan clutch from what I understand.
Even with the fan on manually, it's hot. -
Going down the road it's kinda working but it seems to be in and out. It's not so bad while driving really. -
if so, turn it on, and see if that improves the a/c out put. -
for only a 2 year old truck, it could be low on freon, but the radiator need lots of air going thru it with the a/c on.

Yeah it's kinda only halfway working while driving down the freeway with either the fan on or off and nothing while idling
I tried it with the fan switch on and maybe it's a tiny bit better.
It's barely enough only while driving at freeway speeds with the fan on or off. -
Would it just naturally need a recharge after almost 2.5 years or maybe it's leaking? -
Hammer166 Thanks this.

You may want so stick with Pete on that one. The HVAC on that model is computer controlled with faults read through ESA. There are 5 actuators in the dash which are prone to failure and control everything from the duct temp to air flow. Does the blower ever shut off randomly? ,or is it just blowing warm?
Worth a shot to at least check the refrigerant charge and for dye leaks. If its low it has a leak somewhere. Check the filter too. Easy access RH side under the hood on the cowl. Slide open door. They plug up real fast in dusty environments.Oxbow Thanks this.
