If you're able to move over and tail whip their mirror off, then you had ample time to move over to give them space, or give them room to pull out

Yeah but your brakes always work
Trucker61016 and Cavendish97 Thank this. -
You might be setting yourself to be a pretty stupid one on my dash cam when your trailer comes across the travel lane markers and slams into my vehicle whatever it is.
YOU would actually be a aggressor and a whole set of new problems. Whatever lessons etc is going to be lost in the prosecution once the Law runs you down.
I understand your frusteration.
When people pull straight out into traffic from Zero mph of the shoulder or off a ramp way too slow; Well that is what that camera is for. If I survive the smash or not. -
I was stuck in that mess. I heard a different story from the trucks directly stuck behind the accident for hours before they were directed to back up and use a turn around. I realize how many unbelievable trucker stories we've all heard though. There were storms, rain, mist and fog in the area that morning I know for sure because I wasn't far behind. I never heard anything about a repair, just simply that the driver was driving far too slowly in the fog because he couldn't see. The Pam truck came over a blind hill, couldn't stop in time, jack knifed and plowed into the back of the other truck.
Traffic was a mess. Traffic detoured onto VA-11 which then had another accident that had that shut down. I detoured over to US-29 and it was all smooth sailing until I got to Lynchburg and the storms started. The single worst storm I've ever driven through- no visibility and the roads were flooding.Trucker61016, magoo68, Snailexpress and 1 other person Thank this. -
I am not disputing what you have heard or said, but the report that I got came also from drivers that were also stuck in the mess.
Now living in the area, I have a question for you. You on 1-81 at the 195 mm going south, did you get off on U.S. 60 @the 188 mm to go to U.S 29? Or did you run across the mountain on highway 130 or 501? I am at wits end to understand how you got on 29 from the point of the accident, just curious.Trucker61016 Thanks this. -
We got off at the Petro in Raphine after a long backup to weigh our options since we were hearing that 11 was a no-go. At that point VDOT was predicting the road to be closed through the night. We didn't do anything crazy on those country roads, ended up reversing course back north to I-64 and grabbing US-29 near Charlottesville. From my calculations we drove an extra 140ish miles but it was better than parking for the night at Petro with the angry mob of truckers or taking our chances on a closed VA-11. I got us paid for the extra miles and they threw in extra money to boot because we worked so hard to get to pickup on our "hot load." I was actually really enjoying our scenic detour until mother nature let loose.
Trucker61016 and Grouch Thank this. -

Seatbelts? Don't need no stinking seatbelts. -
It’s estimated that 50% of drivers with more than 10 years experience have developed very unique abilities that allow them to travel not only to a particular time in history, but also a specific location. This power allows them to be awesome eyewitnesses.
BUT drivers without this ability are prone to exaggerate, twist, embellish, omit, replace, and mince, entire or critical parts of, any verbal accountings they may overhear. So what all this means is, who the hell, here or there, knows what really happened.Last edited: Aug 6, 2018
