yes our union is seeking for freight to receive the same as us (feeder) which is currently 36.50 hourly with ot after 8 & 40. current negotiations are seeking for us to receive $41 an hour with ot still in full effect of course. if you can get on freight off the street you are pretty much a shoe in to jump to at least 36.50 an hour once this contract is all said & done. plus your medical/dental/vision/chiropractic/prescription/legal services benefits for yourself & all dependents are FREE & 2nd to none. i have paid ZERO dollars for all family dental & prescriptions for the last 16 years & mere pennies for probably over a hundred thousand in medical (yes benefits are the same when part time waiting to go full time). i net after taxes between 7500-9k a month. so yea, it's worth the wait especially if you're young to get on asap in a hub (when your time comes they pay you full feeder rate while training for your cdl & no dmv drive test required - ups is certified to pass you then you just take your paper to dmv & you are issued your class a cdl), or as stated off the street into freight

Good thread. Just read the OP is in Spokane. I’ll be moving there in December. From my research I’d say it’s OD or Estes. Being that Spokane is pretty isolated, there are like 10+ LTL outfits in that city! Not to mention gas hauling, a few chemical outfits, and a few cryogenic tankers companies. There are so many to choose from. I’ve got experience and once you have 2+ years go for the best paying. I’m leaning towards Estes or OD.

Have you read what has cone come out of the freight contract? It's horrible. They get $2.25 an hour raise for the duration of the contract and .015 a mile.
Those raises don't even keep up with the rate of inflation.

well, the entire contract, which includes freight, package & feeder, isn't even in any final stage yet. the next step is to vote on it, & as it looks it will not receive a yes vote, which will send union negotiators back to the tables with ups. & ok even if it went from only 26 to lets say 28.25 an hour, with $42 an hour after 8 hrs in a day & 40 in a week, with JUST the medical benefits (NOT even including dental, prescription, legal, vision & chiropractic) being worth $2k-3k a month for many with families, i'd say that's far better than 95% of any other companies. too many forget how great the benefits are (AND that they are FREE) and don't factor that in to the equation of ups. for any man or woman with a spouse and 1 child or more it is a huge factor. now for a single guy or gal that doesn't care too much about the benefits, ok there are probably other companies that pay more cash but have zero, crap or expensive benefits (ups top of the line benefits are 100% free). - my benefits for myself, wife & 4 kids would cost me $3600 a month if i wanted to purchase my plan on my own (blue cross ppo with access to any doctor & any specialist of our choice WITHOUT referals, & the dental is 100% coverage also access to ANY dentist of our choice -- the dental receptionists/secretaries are mesmerized at how good our insurance is & that it's 100% coverage)

with lower pay at both & no overtime until 55 & 60 hrs, & mediocre benefits that you have to pay for (they are free at ups & way above mediocre) i'd say ups freight is better than both

I'm skeptical that UPS Freight will ever pay as much as feeders. The reason being the margins are so much narrower in LTL freight. The amount of money in shipping charges is way lower on a Freight linehaul truck compared to a feeder truck. Don't get me wrong; I would love to see it happen because it would push the rest of us higher, but I bet they'd go out of business before any of that happened.

UPS Freight already costs more to ship with than all the rest (according to several shippers I used to pick up at) and they are already growing slower than their closest competitors. Shippers won't tolerate an additional 30% premium just so Freight drivers can be paid like their feeder brothers.

I hear that. Some of us, myself included, can not afford to “pay my dues” and sit by the phone waiting for work. I have a friend that had to put up with this at UPSF. If I were single, it may be an option but some of us have to run NOW and make money. Some LTL companies like OD and Estes seem to be ready to give you the miles.

The entire contract does not include freight and feeder together. They are separate contracts.

IMO the Feeder contract isn't too bad. The freight contract does not have enough in pay raises especially for mileage pay.

With that said, freight will NEVER pay as much as feeder.
