I'd like to see the other side of this story....the media of today conveniently forgets to utilize the basics of Journalism and provide a fair and balanced report.

Perhaps the deputy pulled Mr. Ornelas over for an equipment violation...after all, it was a NAFTA truck.

Ornelas should consider himself lucky...He's out and able to sue.
I doubt that American drivers would receive the same treatment (respect) from the Mexican authorities.

So, this officer was supposed to remember this ONE driver out of all the drivers he most likely stops in a 5 month period? And he was supposed to just automatically know that the driver's papers were in order? And is there proof that he had the log book when he "dropped" the driver off? Here's the thing I see, you're making your assumption of the officer’s guilt based on one man's accusations to the press and your personal emotions. I'd like to see proof of the harassment. It's real easy for me to say that someone is harassing me even if they're not.

Perhaps someone else would read this story and think: “oh look just another Mexican driver who doesn’t want to be stopped in the U.S. and thinks he’s above our laws. When he couldn’t talk his way out of it he decided to try and smear the officer and make some easy money with a law suit”.

You see how easy it is to just create guilt with a bit of personal emotion and imagination?

I certainly hope that the state of Arizona looks at this without prejudging either side. The documents will be easily verified if they were handed in at the processing centre.
I would not be a good person to judge this because I have experienced the hand of the Arizona law enforcement. I believe that some of them are still operating way behind the times, and abusing their powers.

sounds like the good sheriff is very pro AMERICAN trucker, and is waging his own crusade against the cross border program, if so its about time at least one AMERICAN has the guts to make a stand against something even congress agrees overwhelmingly needs stopped.

Well for one thing when you sue someone there is no assumption of guilt thats what trials are for. And he didnt have to remember him since he told the officer that he did pull him over b4 and his paper work was in order then and still was. That doesn not merit him impounding his truck again and taking his logbook again. That sounds like prejudice and harrassment. Obvioulsy you think that police officers are infallible and every single one of them is free of prejudice and follows the letter of the law. Agreed most are, however there are also many police officers that are also in prison. So when i comment on, i think the officers sounds like an ### and sue him. That is not putting a guilty tag on n e one. The laywers im sure have both sides of the story and thats y they are proceding with the suit. HMMM i bet you just have a problem with them coming into this country and working.

Couldnt agree more, the media is always biased one way or the other. Except in this case because the other side of the story happens to be the sheriffs dept. Which i doubt would even contribute n e information to the media which is usually the case in lawsuits like this. And NO if this were in an american in Mexico he would not get the same treatment for sure.

You might want to work on your spelling and grammar a tad before throwing that term at others.

    This won't end well.

Oh, and I do have a problem with them coming into this country and working.

Getting pissed about Nafta and it results is one thing but pinching one Driver and making his life miserably. That's just a sign of impotent frustration. ..We may be at the receiving end soon, dropping trailers in Mexico and filling our tanks with cheap fuel. Yes we are getting the short end of the stick but taking it out on one Mexican drivers is misplaced. The people responsible for this are up the ladder not down...Just try to hold the higher ups responsible You cant, so people take it out one some scapegoat they do have power over..
