That's what I was wondering. Guys at the company I work for are probably making minimum wage. $10 p/h at best.
I'm in north Louisiana....
But, just FYI, I wouldnt trade a minimum wage job for 10 degree weather 9 months out of the year though.... That could be why I aint familiar with $18 p/h fork lift drivers. -
Allentown Pa. Believe it or not, you can find a forklift position out here thru temp agencies paying $16+. And once you get hired on directly thru the company, your pay increases. Check C'list and see for yourself.

Just thinking about working 68 hours in a week makes me very very tired!Last edited: Aug 14, 2018

Well aren't most OTR drivers running out #### near their entire 70hr clock every week?

Not sure what the cost of living is out there. You also got to keep in mind cost of daily commuting and rent. Two things I dont have to worry about right now. Even if i pay for a motel on my off time its only about 1/4 the cost of rent and utilities.

So?
One of these days. I gotta get me a real job. This is too much like goofing off.kemosabi49, TravR1 and Chinatown Thank this. -

What I'm getting at is what can we all as drivers do to change the industry standards? Unlike other occupations where companies can simply hire temps, with an already severe shotage as is, we actually have a lot more leverage than many will admit. Is a freight freeze possible? Would you as an individual driver be willing to participate? I know some of you are happy where you currently are employed. But is everyone? Especially the old timers who you hear all the time talk about how much more $ was in trucking back in the 80s. What can we as a group realistically do about it?

A freight freeze isn't possible. I've seen that tried. "OK, at 0600 in the morning, no freight will move!"
Then at 0600 the trucks start pulling out of the truck stops until the lot is almost empty.
I don't know of any driver that will just sit knowing if he does this, the next paycheck will be 100's of dollars less, all because he's trying to appease some other driver and that drivers dumb idea.
If a driver is working for low pay, that's his fault, not mine.Just passing by Thanks this.
