My experience with a dump was a spring equipped Superliner 500 Mack. With the V8 diesel engine and a 15 speed. I did blacktop, stone, dirt with it and even a chopped up Oak tree a time or two. Plus a trailer on the pintle to paver, backhoe etc.
To wit if I had money and need a dump, I would not hesitate to buy another Superliner 500 Dump. It was a original road tractor trailer for years, until the 5th wheel was removed and the dump bed put on with the PTO etc. It's not fast and it's a touch stiff when empty (Bumpy) but I could not think of anything better for that work. I considered myself so lucky.
In fact to this day I can show up in Maryland and hop into that dump truck with a Class B and have at it right now if the man was still in the paving business.
That's about it. I don't need much. The other dump was a single axle international with a 9 speed and rear axle manual splitter, high-low in addition to the main low range and high range transmission splitter. It could not haul as much as the superliner, but it could get into places the Mack would have trouble with and a little cheaper to run on days we on't have need of big mack. Or a valuable addition to really big days when we lay down 100 yards of stone. Two dumps working as a team in relay.
I would be very happy never to touch another International. But that dump was not bad.
