Will the trucking industry get a piece of the pie? Trucking is a service business. They do not create freight. Trucking may get tax incentives to invest in new equipment, but most loads come from housing, automotive and food industries.
Hiring freeze includes N.Y too.

I tried Millis Transportation. They don't hire driving school graduates. That sucks.
-
Millis Transfer trains their own drivers in their school called i believe mti look at millis web site. You may work your way into a retraining course, its worth a try.
SupaTruka Thanks this. -
I'll check on that, thanks

wats-up supatruka. You sound like me. I came out of school in nov 14,2008 and was scheduled to go to McElroys oreintation the last week of jan,2009. My wife fell and broke her leg a week before I left and I have been side-lined ever since. She has healed now and the thing is that no one is hiring right now. I have put in several apps and nothing. The bad thing is that now, will probally have to spend another $300.00 for a refresher course.

Your profile says Rhode Island...why are you looking for jobs in NY or LI? I'd think CT/MA a better bet. TMC runs dedicated Home Depot loads out of Norwood, MA...Hartt(Bangor, ME) does Lowes, CRST runs flatbeds out of Bloomington CT for Home Depot also. Just a few thoughts.
As far as trucking jobs on LI, if you don't have dump or tanker+hazmat experience, good luck. Nobody wants to pay GWB or Verrazano tolls to get ya home, and the local companies are often only hiring on a friend of a friend basis. -
I moved to Rhode Island from New York earlier this year. I posted some of my posts when I moved, but forgot to change my location...Sorry for the confusion, lol.

Dot foods is big in upstate. All the major carriers don't want drivers that cause exessive tolls to get them home. Since there aren't as many major shippers like Kodak left upstate, guys were getting sent home from buffalo, Mass, or Pa. My company as a cost saving measure went so far as to terminate all the upstate NY drivers. If you live along 84 youmight still find someone to hire you. Only other problem being that you are a greenhorn in a bad area.
