1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I'm similar to Wenger there, no "school" of driving, but came up with dumps, then four years of John Deere hauling for a dealer, then five OTR years with just under 1.5 mil. miles and no accidents.
I think I could easily get in any truck, with ANY transmission, and take off with ANY load except tanker, and not have any problems. But 19 years off into construction and I'm technically a noob.
In their defense: when I quit, we had no ABS, no QualComm, no GPS, APU's (we idled constantly) and no legal logs, ever. I've studied the new regs, ABS info, and am on my way to get the permit to allow me to go to the school I want, and I'm not gonna beyatch about it. Jump thru the hoops, show 'em I can drive, back, mountain climb and lump. Learn what they want from me and find out what they REALLY want when I get out in the field.
It's a job, and I'll feel safer knowing that everyone has to have SOME little bit of refreshing or training as long as they didn't go to Werner or Schwifth. :biggrin_25518:
I'll be safer on the road and giving those guys a wide berth. Providing I can just get HIRED!

The facts are that companies that never hired school grads are now. The rates are low and going lower. Men and Women with experience will be either sittin at home or sitting still. And I'm talking over all. Companies right now are willing to roll the dice, and keep the wheels movin cheap. Sad But True

I have 13+ yrs of local experience and 3mos OTR. Most companies I talked to the conversation ended when we discussed my experience. However, Schneider, Miller Transport, Quality Carriers only required tractor trailer not necessarily OTR. Hope that helps...

Well, at least you got a good deal! My private school in Idaho cost $3500 two years ago. $6000? Wow!:biggrin_2551: Good luck.
