The sound is normal. It's the VGT (variable geometry turbo) changing pitch to control emissions.

    Variable Geometry?

You mean vanes inside the thing adusting airflow?

Be gentle with me, Some people think I only know turbos with two parts. One driven by exhaust and the other simply feeds air into the engine.

If it only feeds air it's a blower or supercharger. I suppose he's talking about the pitch of the vanes in the turbo.

Might also check your Air Induction Boots on the motor? I drove a Volvo that was nearly new and it blew an air boot and was making that noise. Should be two of them? Didnt cost but about 20 bucks to fix. I bought the hose and put it on myself. I bought an extra one in case the other side blew. Best I remember, the clamps cost more than the boot?

Yes. And I'm sleeping by the tracks.

God I hate the Raiders..... Go Chiefs!
    #Sociable Xpress.

..... Maybe the Godfather..... you know, heading up the ho-train.

If you think I'm sexy and you want my chassis, come on driver, let me know.

In seriousness, it's probably the turbo or a combo of the turbo & the fan. Onomatopeia make for many good jokes.

For starters, thanks for the chuckle. I second the turbo idea, OP....the trucks trying to tell you something, can you hear it?

"Immm, too sexy for my turbo, too sexy for my turbo, soooo sexxaaayy it huuuurrrts."

Just sing that in the voice of "Right Said Fred" it'll all make sense, and yea, I sang it out loud to verify before posting. No shame here. ha

    Lol.

My primary is a Volvo (D13 - day-cab VNL300, 500hp). #505. 289k on the odo, pulling GCW of 100k. Been nothing but solid, overall. And I prefer it over the Ken's that most of the other company guys drive. #### on it all ya want, it makes me my wage without crapping out. Sturdy little truck.

Volvo is about only truck brand I have yet to drive. I've got a buddy who runs a Volvo daycab for H-E-B and he loves it.
