My newest laptop will be my last that requires windows.
It came loaded with Vista but, after a week I installed XP...

When this puter kicks it I'll be buying a Apple!

Yeah, I hear ya. I see the demise of Microsoft coming. Windows7 is basically service pack3 of Vista. They are not listening to people and continue push the same song and dance with there O/S's.

I'm split on this one. MS is a total POS the way it is. But....

I think they will spin it off as a platform of "design", soon. By that, I mean they will provide the basic coding for a computer designed for specific uses. The coding can be enhanced, or reduced. Depending on the applications.

Much like the automated assembly lines. One main frame, and several sub frames.

Vista already provides for a multitude of configurations. But we demand so much from our PC's. The code has become extremely bloated. By reducing the overall size, and dedicating it to one or 2 functions. It could speed it up and increase it's overall reliability.

Meanwhile, Joe Blow wants his PC to do everything....so we all suffer.

Ya, know I've thought about in the past, but I've just assumed that it was for Hackers and developers... Which was always beyond my needs!

However, your post reminded me that I'm starting a website in the near future with one of my tech savoy friends, so I read the classes on Linux's site. I like that you can install it over windows, so you won't lose anything. I think that's what I'm going to do, on one of my old puters or my girlfriends(hehe), to see if I like it enough to compleatly uninstall windows... If I can still use Opera we'll be fine...lol!

Windows 7, from everything I've read on it, is the OS Vista should have been. They slimmed it down and lowered the system requirements. I for one will get the update as soon as it comes out. All the review writers I've read over the years and come to trust are all saying th same thing, this is the best version of Windows to come out in a long while. MS had to slim it down because those low powered netbooks are becoming all the rage, and the companies that make them are putting them out with Linux on them, because Vista is such a big memory hogging monster. If enough people get exposed to Linux, MS is done for.
