So a friend of mine is offering a 2006 Columbia for $18000. 1,100,000 miles, Cat c15 twin turbo just rebuilt with everything EXCEPT new injectors, 8 new tires. A bit beat up looking but fully DOT legal.
Is this a good deal? How are the Cat c15 engines? I don't know much about them, would prefer a series 60 but he says these Cats are stronger. Also, will it take ELD? We are thinking of taking it to Landstar, and they require to install a Qualcomm.
Buying a 2006 Columbia, $18000, good deal?

Read what you wrote. A dozen year old Columbia for 18k! I couldn’t do it for that truck. I love Acerts and they are tough (imo), are the 8 new tires caps or virgins? Yes, it will take ELDs. A bit beat up but fully DOT legal to me begs for constant inspections from the DOT cops. Just my 2 cents.....

How much would you say is a fair price for this thing? Also, this is the same guy selling it that's trying to sell me oceanfront property in Montana as per your reply on my other post, so I am a bit suspicious.

Does he have paperwork from the rebuild? If it was recently rebuilt, seems like a good deal.

In My Opinion— that is an 8-9000 dollar truck. You have million mile rears, million mile trans, million mile etc. The only thing that is fresh is the engine- that is if he has receipts to prove it. What other records does he have on the truck?
Dino soar and PermanentTourist Thank this. -
He could have given it a Krylon rebuild if there are no records or receipts to prove it. You can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.

In frame alone will cost that much, if you invest another 10 to 15k in it you will have a solid pre def truck, with whatever cat had as egr. But it won’t be Cali legal, your friend is bsing about the carb reversal
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
Oceanfront property in Montana?
Oldironfan Thanks this. -
Razor- I agree that an in frame will cost that much. If I understand you correctly if he invests another ten to fifteen thousand he could have a pretty solid pre DEF truck. Ok, then why not just spend the 28-35000 now and buy something that’s worth a dang, like an older but super solid KW or Pete? Again, this is my opinion and I don’t have all the answers, but I would spend the money listed above on something that isn’t a recycled washing machine with a Cat in it.

Is it a good deal? It has potential to be, but other posters did make mention of significant drawbacks. If the engine was rebuilt, you're not too far from a tranny rebuild among things
Lepton1 and Oldironfan Thank this.
