Hello, and welcome to the boards. My advice is look around, read everything you can and question everything. If it all seems like a bunch of roses then you can bet that you're standing in the ##### used to fertilize them.
There are a ton of good people with years of experience who will be your best friends both here and in real life at local truckstops and terminals, these people can be a FOUNTAIN of knowledge for us newbies.
In my few weeks behind the wheel I have learned (1) that it's alot harder than some friends and relatives made it look (2) the life isn't for everyone, but it can be a good and rewarding (3) I know NOTHING because all they teach in "driving school" is how to hopefully not kill anybody while a real trainer teaches you.
I wish I could give more advice but the sagest I have for now is sit back to read and listen to anything and everything.
Recent truck school grad, off to company in january, need somegood & helpful advice!

Howdy rcrobin,
I'm pretty new to this as well, but from what i've gathered so far it pretty much sounds like if someone (anyone) is offering you a job you should take it. In this economy with all the layoffs and downsizing it sounds like we really cant afford to pick and choose too much. I've been laidoff from my straight truck job since the first week of the year. So I'm taking this oppurtunity to upgrade from a class B to a class A CDL. I went with the first company that accepted me I don't know your situation but You may want to do the same. My wife is in healthcare and she may be getting laidoff too. So, I don't have the luxury of turning down a job offer but if you do then I guess I really havent helped much lol. I can tell you this much you will find tons of great info on this site so good luck.RCROBIN Thanks this. -
I've been busy applying at other companies but so far most are saying they have a hiring freeze right now but that's ok,I'll
keep trying!
