Missouri, like all states, limits how long creditors and collection agencies can come after you for unpaid debts. This window of time is the statute of limitations and it differs between states. In Missouri, it varies between two and 10 years depending on debt type

 

Nothing really significant. I knew that Swift had slow trucks and Schneider schedule did not line up with mine. It was 2002 and Werner was recruiting newbies. They had the orientation in Indianapolis, so it was not too far. They were saying about a lot of local runs in Chicago area as an option later on too. It was pretty much a random choosing of a Mega carrier.

 

Check the laws in your state. Most have a statute of limitations on how long they can sue. Five years is a long time and they may be beyond the limit in your state. The SOL in Texas for bad debts is only two years for example. Also, bad credit references can only hang around for seven years, provided you don't do anything to renew them like making a payment.

I'd ignore their mail and block their number if they called. I wouldn't pay it. Not after five years. Above all, do not admit to the debt.

If it's gone to collections, and you pay them anything. then the 7 year period resets...

Just ignore it.

 

Also, paying any debt doesn't fix your credit. The tainted credit will remain nasty until it's off your record in about 7 years from the last activity date. The only time it may benefit you is if you're going for a home mortgage to show you're paying it off. Otherwise I wouldn't bother. You'll still have bad credit no matter what.

It's different per state.

Some are as low as 3 years. There's a few that go as high as 10 years.
In my state. It's 6 years.

It's an interesting question though. When you live in one state and the debt is in another state that might have higher years.

 

All of the trucking companies that provide "free training" will charge you for the training/school if you don't work off your contract period. Usually that period is 1 year. Read your contract. You likely owe the money. Did you really think Prime was going to train and house you and not demand you either work for them or pay them?
