That's a good tie. Smelly plant matter VS smelly meat matter.

I grew up in Federal Way, just Northeast of Tacoma, when it was mostly woods and farms. The Tacoma Aroma disappeared decades ago. We were downwind when the pulp mill put out a pretty good stench some days.
These days, if I were to move back to the greater Tacoma/Seattle/Everett area I would look at Parkland, the hill south of Puyallup, Gig Harbor or west of there, etc. In other words try to find something just outside of development.
If you are into outdoor recreation, there's nothing that compares to that area. Many a day I could clock out at five and be skiing at the passes within an hour or two (night skiing). Climbing, hiking, hunting, fishing,...oh heck, the list is endless. There's more boats per capita than anywhere else in the world.
It's a good place to live. Be sure to explore the east side of the state. The rain shadow makes it sunny and dry on weekends when it drizzles and rains on the west side.98424Tacoma and JReding Thank this. -
I was born and raised in Tacoma, in fact I still live in the same county, currently residing in Puyallup, just southeast of Tacoma.
It depends what you're looking for as far as where you want to live:
-Are you renting or buying?
-House or apartment?
-Suburban or more rural?
From Tacoma, you have the Cascades to the east about 45 minutes away, to the West you have the Olympics, about two hours away, and the Pacific ocean about two and a half hours. If you're an outdoorsman, you will love it here. Hunting, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, watersports, offroading, etc, in abundance.
I also agree with @Lepton1, look outside of Tacoma, unless you have your mind made up. Look towards the South Hill (Puyallup) area, Graham, Bonney lake, Buckley, Eatonville, etc.Last edited: Sep 10, 2018
