What Are Those Yellow Devices guys wear in the oil field?

Probably a gas monitor

 

If you are in the oil field, you should have one, especially if you are out in the field. They detect H2S gas, it can kill you within a few seconds, sometimes quicker. Texas is notorious for this gas, more than a few guys have died doing the most simplest of things. Also, a site may not have any issues for months, and then one day... Nothing to play with.

And H2S occurs naturally. It has nothing to do with working around "gas".

 

The company you are working for should give you some of this training, or at least I hope they do. I spent four years in North Dakota and a year up in Alaska, Dead Horse/Prudhoe Bay, nothing to mess with. If nothing else, educate yourself, plenty of info out there, OSHA has on line courses, as do other outfits. Even hauling water can be very dangerous. Hopefully you will have a good trainer if you have never done this sort of work before.

 

only training I got was if it goes off run like hell - if you see somebody on the ground dont try to help em because they are already dead.

 

You run from where you came from! And always watch those wind socks when on site, they are there for that very reason, so you do not run into the gas but away. Run the way the wind is blowing, not into it.

 

Yeah, its an air monitor. The wife puts hers on anytime i eat deer meat or fried bologna.
