    Hello guys,

I would like to know who is hiring at the moment...There was a thread but its quite old and messy, and there's more people complaining then talking about the facts.

from what I know Werner and Crete are hiring, but I do not have hazmat for Crete and Werner denied my app.

I was actually looking to get re-hire at Prime but they said they are not hiring right now.

    My requirements:

    - will take a driver with less than a year experience
    - 2 moving violations in the last 3 years
    - 1 accident in the last 3 years

    Thanks for all

The few companies that would hire you with that MVR would soon have you regretting you were hired .

Yeah most company drivers never really have to know how much commercial insurance is. It's nothing like a car, it's a couple hundred a WEEK for me (new, but clean MVR). Smaller companies are out, probably wouldn't have the option to add you to the policy which leaves you with the self-insured companies. Werner is kind of the fall back for that. You can try Covenant. I had a fellow grad finally get on with them with an accident last year, but I don't think he was at fault and they asked for the reports.

Well who's hiring is the question of the day? I'm out of school 3 weeks applied to many different trucking companies like CRST, WEL, LISA MOTOR, FFE, COVENANT, WERNER, SWIFT, US. EXPRESS, Many more, too many to list, I have called all these companies up and spoke with the reps, because I live in Long Island, " THEIR NOT HIRING IN THOSE AREAS OR YOU DONT HAVE ENOUGH EXPERIENCE" Thats ok the 2nd part I can live with it, starting at the bottom. I'm ok with that, I know, I have to put in the time. I just dont understand the first part, we arent hiring in long island, but I'm knew to this field of trucking so I know one thing the ECONOMY IS REALY BAD, and like my friend said experience is the key.
How do us new guys get experience if companys arent hiring. Out of all those companies I was approved to go with werner, and lisa motors is hiring also, but the rest will not hirer you if you live in long island, ny or
they arent just hiring due to the economy, I really wanted to go to shaffer, the rep didnt bull??? us at all, so know i applied and call up and they dont want to hirer me because of where I live, but they never said that in the beggining, so I'm very frustrated, I have a clean record, ex-military U.S ARMY MEDIC, and Its been very frustrating. if anybody can offer some advice Im all ears.........thanks,,,,pattymac

Well, just to give you some perspective, it's not just the fact that you're new, there just isn't enough work and freight to go around.

I started with a smaller company in 2002 that has about 200 trucks. This company has been around since 1914, and survived the Great Depression and two World Wars. They have now laid off over half their drivers and are pretty much on their deathbed. They were thelast company I expected to go under, I figured they would survive nuclear winter. But over the last 20 years they refused to change their business model and adjust to the times. Instead they continued to put all their eggs in one basket relying only on one customer. That customer is nearly dead, and alas, so is this trucking company.

I now work for a middle-sized company that has about 400 trucks, but I'm leaving soon. They are HQ'd in the same area as the above company. They are fairing better, but also have a hiring freeze and have managed to get rid of some of their troublemakers in recent weeks. When I say doing better I mean they haven't had a big layoff yet.

I am leaving them and going to work for a small reefer outfit within the next few weeks. About 50 company trucks and 15 owner ops. 75MPH top speed, no quallcomm, and good hometime along with decent customers. It won't be perfect i know, but I wouldn't get into truck driving now as a student unless there is no other alternative. If stuff goes sour there, i will probably be going back into the military myself... just to give you some perspective...

I would try Millis Transfer out of Black River Falls, WI. I have a buddy that works for them and is doing great after 2 years. They run east a lot, esp Jersey, but I don't know if they do a lot of NYC or Long Island. Like any place else right now there is a waiting list for students, but its worth a shot. I don't think there's a better company around for a newbie right now. Maybe you could find a place to park your rig on the Jersey side if they can't get you home to long Island.

thanks for info, I have seen that some of these really good comapnies just arent hiring, which I totally understand, due to this economy, so i have no choice right know, I need driving time and experience, then hopefully by that time these companies will open their doors again, but I have been excepted to werner, which wasnt my first choice but out of 20 trucking companies that i called, they are all saying the same thing to me, go to werner get road time and get 1 year experience, then you can go places, but with road experience, you cant do anything. I would like to run regional, on the north east coast. At this present time I dont have a leg to stand on, like my military days, you have to start some where, thanks again and god bless....see yah some time again.........
