Might still make you road test in a manual though. Happened to me.

You gotta back them with one foot on the gas and one on the break bud.

Ffx95 and Bob Dobalina Thank this.

The new Eaton Endurant 12-speeds have solved that problem. They actually begin to creep when you let off the brake and you can easily control it to gently bump the dock when you get close by tapping the brake which kinda feathers the clutch at the end.

They fixed my biggest complaint about the autos. It even works backing up a slope.

Disabling the Hill Assist makes a world of difference while backing an auto shift.

Let's just back up and think about this for a moment:

Is the real reason why these automated contraptions are even in existence is because Eaton is afraid they'll lose all their business to Allison?

Everyone kind of knew automatics were coming, but Allison has been making real automatic transmissions for like what---60,70+ years, while Eaton has NEVER made a real automatic with a torque converter.

So eaton might have been afraid that they would be totally lost and Allison would just take over the automatic transmission market completely because they (eaton) would have to play catch up learning how to make a real automatic transmission, and they might not ever catch up, so instead they decided to come out with these "automated" contraptions.

Because the idea of having a regular manual transmission, still with a clutch, shifted by a computer is FREAKING STUPID.

I have had autos the past 5 years. The new ones are excellent even on steep grades however you do have to go to manual mode off road. We had Deuce and Half trucks that were autos back in the 70's when i was on pipeline. One had a 3000 gallon tank on it that Fric and Frac managed to let the truck roll into the river in Bracebridge On while loading tank. Autos are not new by any stretch but have improved significantly and you can get better fuel mileage.

Except for the fact that the Allisons get poor fuel mileage. Too much loss in a torque converter.
