Is fuel necessarily about gas stations? I think I've seen some gigs supporting the trains for refueling. Or other places that keep their own fuel tanks onsite for their equipment or vehicles.

A lot of large companies like CSX likely have their own in-house fuel haulers. But yes, there are other facilities with bulk fuel tanks. Ryder or other truck leasing/rental shops, most any company with a large enough fleet to warrant have fuel pumps on site. Then there's aviation fuel to air ports...which is a dedicated load/trailer.

There's also places like farms and such with smaller quantity of vehicles, with smaller bulk tanks. They usually require delivery from a straight truck tanker (we call them fuel wagons) because they can get in/out of those places.

Usually, the small delivery places going to farms, trucking co.'s, etc., don't really pay a lot. Propane delivery too, doesn't pay much, and it's a crappy job, dragging that hose through the snow to a remote tank.Place in N. Wis. was looking for a propane driver, and starting pay was $8.00/hr. I said, "you're nuts". No wonder they had an opening.:biggrin_25512:

I do that exact job, we are called Fleet Fuelers (construction equipment, tanks, saddle tanks, trains... anything). It's half driving half pulling that hose around. I just got a job doing it out of school and make 23$/hr with good benefits and union too. Driver that's been here for 10 years is making 30$/hr and made six figures... lots of hours and hard work but gooood money. Also home everyday!

Fuel hauling may have been a helluva gig once upon a time but from what I hear around me it really doesn't pay any better than any other local job.

I've applied at three outfits around me and all started around $20 an hour. No thanks.
