A tire that is run with low pressure will generate more heat.

How do tires last 8 years?
I am at 250k on average for tire changes with some exceptions, and that is three or four years of tire life - not eight.
AND as for those units, I am getting out of them 5 to 6 years, I get that if you are spinning 2,145,00,000 times, you would fail too. -
Not JUST talking commercial trucks. The current mandate for new vehicles having TPMS only applies to cars & light trucks. I pulled the tires off my F250 with plenty of tread still on them because they were 7 years old and I was getting ready to head to Texas to pull a couple horses back and didn't want iffy tires giving me trouble. Those tires have now been on the truck almost 8 more years and still probably only 50% of the tread wore off. Grandpa sold his '86 Tempo to my older brother in '94 and it still had the original tires on it. Hell, the tires on my '92 Ranger were originally bought for my '86 Ranger back in 2002...so that's 16 years on them.
If you want this crap on YOUR cars and/or trucks, that's fine...spend YOUR money and either order it as an option from the factory or install an aftermarket system. Don't go telling ME that I have to have it just because you'd rather take the lazy way out and rely upon technology to tell you when something might be wrong. -
The pressure monitors on the trucks I drove were incorporated into the valve cap. Maybe that would be a perk of using an after market system that isn't integrated.

Does the cat eye System work good ?

Got some on a tilt trailer I run hauling my construction equipment. I like them

Had them on my box truck, and plan to put them on my semi truck and trailer. Check pressure at a glance, and you only need to hit one air chuck for both tires, and it's easy to get to. Also keeps pressure equalized. And if you have a blowout, the sudden differential will seal a check valve, and keep the other tire from deflating.Midwest Trucker Thanks this.

My preference for trailer is an automatic air inflation system. Keeps tires inflated during a puncture. The system light on trailer alerts of air being used.
God prefers Diesels Thanks this.
