PA is bad. They only use sand I think. Truck looks like you drove through a beach when you get back

Utah doesn't use sand. And they clean during storms. Unless it's down south. I don't think they work night shift.
Utah is probably the best rated state. With lotsa salt in the back yard. And brine when it gets too cold for salt.

Oregon uses pea gravel. Oregon sucks in the winter time. Lotsa broken windshields.

Wyoming cleans. But can't control the wind.

If it’s going to drop to 20 degrees or colder you’re better off if they leave the snowpack rather than trying to get it all off the road. Cold snowpack has more traction than a thin sheet of ice.

I could never understand the 'bare pavement policy' that they supposedly enacted in Pennsylvania a few years ago. Rather than scraping the snow off the road and creating ice, would they not be better off letting it lay until the storm is over? Seems like every winter, they scrape the road bare, then it turns to a sheet of ice.

Salt won’t do anything when you have consistent snowfall all winter and temps that won’t approach freezing for months. Fall and spring are the worst when it starts the freeze/thaw cycle. That’s when you’re chaining up. Once the snowpack sets in and they maintain it and keep it smooth you can run all winter without throwing chains.

Because a lot of people don’t understand that and cry if they can’t see the pavement during the winter.
