I don't have a CB yet and am on a tight budget. I see that Love's has a small 4 watt Midland or Cobra on sale for $29.99. Will I be wasting my money? Or will it work until I can afford a better unit? I don't plan to become a CB fanatic and whatever I get will stay stock.. thx, bill

I actually bought the cheap cobra when I first started got it for $20 at a ta using my points. It gets out ok when it's a good day when the weather gets bad it still does allright. Another idea is to get that one and then listen for guys selling their backups at the truck stops. I picked up a great cobra 25 for $25 that way. But a friend of mine bought the midland when his galaxy was in the shop, said it worked ok too.

I have a Uniden PC 78 in my truck. I have ran one for about six years and have had very good luck with it. I don't try to talk to people in another state, or anything, but I have had a lot of cb shops tell me that my radio does as well as a lot of higher priced radios. I just use a good mic, Road King, and a good antenna, Wilson 2000. I actually use the factory installed coax.

You`ll do fine with a low budget CB.Find someone to help you set SWR and you should be set.You can`t get anybody to respond,so it doesn`t matter how big the radio is.

I agree with rjones56. Absolutely no reason to spend the big bucks on a cb. As long as you get the swr set by someone who knows what they're doing, you'll be ok.

To me the best radio for cheap is the Cobra 29ltd, you can find them sometimes for 80$ at truckstops. 100$ is the norm. if you save a little longer get that one. The shop who "tweaked" my radio always said the 29ltd is the best bullet proof radio ever built. If you buy one you will use it for a long time. I have the Cobra 148gtl with some work done to it, but its about 50$ more then the 29ltd. Hope this helps
