You need to do yoo homework on the Detroit, find out what engine family, or take serial number to dealer. If it has the right pistons and cooling nozzles you win.

My 99 60 has 500,600 and 700 hp with a selector on the dash. Go to YouTube and watch videos from diesel control service, I have his triple play setup,. Ran from Knoxville to OKC this week at 75k and only used the splitter, never had to move the stick.

Most 97 year and up series 60 have the cooling nozzles. 98 was first year for the articulated piston.

I'm a die hard cat man, but in my opinion cat glory days ended with the 6NZ. Today cat couldn't care less about their highway engines or the men that own them. Cat reman parts can be very problematic today.

This old, life long cat man says, go with the 2002 series 60.

Ford or Chevy? Old Ford Super Duty 7.3

It’s sad to see Cat drop the ball on parts /support etc. b- c-e. They were all good engines E had good mpg

I’m wondering what year did Detroit first put an egr valve on 12.7 or 14. I recall the 14 came out at 500 hp no more 12.7 500 hp.Overall longevity and fuel economy on 12.7 seems was best on 430/470 IMO. 500 is great and all but not worth the trade off. My 99 was last of pre NOX . It wasn’t as good after overhaul w/ Low NOX fuel mileage suffered at least 10%.I think they pushed it too far trying to have a 500 to compete while others came out w/ bigger displacements. Detroit denies this but look at added upper cooling jackets to combat upper cyl scuffing after bumped up to 500 Detroit squeezed all they could from 12.7 before they had 14L a few yrs after Cat and Cummins we’re leading HP race. They added nozzles for wristpins My 99 P series had them I don’t think 99 E or M series had them. Both 500 s I’ve had dropped cylinders at around 825k .My first one blew head gasket @. 540 k before needing overhaul @ 825 They all have their weaknesses. I still like Detroit except for blow- by plague. Almost be worth getting an egr valve Lol. My opinions on my experience

Not too broad if you know about 02 Detroit vs 06 c15. It’s a valid question. 06 c15 isn’t a 6nz. 02 Detroit you can’t really go wrong. Too much to go into but it’s getting late and I don’t have the energy

I decided to go with the 60 series, I got the BK model. I got in contact with Erich, he's gonna fix her up right, once I get over there .
